I may have misinterpreted your pressure concern. The vent is a relief for excess or insufficient air pressure in the case, overfilling can lead to unpredictable line pressure fluctuations within the hydraulic circuit(s) as well as possibly frothing and other issues. You definitely dont want to overfill the trans, but if you do overfill by a small amount (definitely under 1L extra) it will be fine. Similar to overfilling engine oil.

Slightly off topic but related. My car has 64K on it and need to do the tranny fluid change. Is $299 for complete kit a decent price? I used this company when I did work on my TDI...always great service. Thanks

That is a pretty decent price for an OEM level kit. You might be able to piece a kit together for less, but not by much.
