Car pulls to side after hitting bumps in road (update)

Update 1/2/2015
Looks like my rear driver strut failed. Noticed oil on driveway. Look under and found this... See pic below

Recently, my car has been pulling to the side after hitting large bumps in the road at highway speeds.

The car tracks straight, so I don't believe it's the alignment.

Some research indicates:

1. Failed Shock
2. Ball joint/bushing wear

Anybody have any more input?

Thanks!

Marc

I don't think it's alignment because car tracks straight....

What do you mean by it tracks straight, but it pulls to the side? The steering wheel is still lined up straight...?

I havethe same issue. It's when my rear right tire hits a bump that it feels like it bouncy left or right. Definitely think it has to be a bushing or alignment.

Might want to get that checked out....captain obvious tells me.
Sounds like something bent/broke....or could just need alignment best case scenario.

It only pulls after hitting a bump.

I've been researching on that issue, it's called "bump steer".
From what I've read it is mostly caused by worn tire or tire issue.maybe tire is worn out , different tire on front and back, tire tread design. Lowered suspension does that too.
let us know if it's something different.

I had that on my jeep, but was fixed by replacing my steering stabilizer. I think I may have to take my car to the shop because there are so many possibilities...

Sucks. I hit a pothole and need new rim, tire, xenon assembly unit, and broken strut. These potholes in NYC are no joke. My car should be ready this week. I can't wait to get it back. This F30 loaner drives nothing like my E90. Total disconnect from the road. However, I'm not putting miles on my car. Good luck.

Glad you got it figured out. Leaking fluid is the best for finding a problem!

The Boston area has some of the worst roads as well. Because of the wonderful roads in Beantown my rear shock started leaking like OP's. As a result, I replaced my sus setup to Bilsteins shocks and H&R sport springs and after that drove to NYC and through the FDR. I swear, I thought I was driving on a Pothole test track rather then a freeway.. So much for having new shocks, that 5mile drive definitely broke in my suspension
