Anyone out there with Semperit Speed Grip
Looking at these for possible winter tires, just wondering if anyone out there has been using them?

i have them in H-rated 17s.
- great for dry, cold highway driving (handles well) - reasonable compromise for ice & slush - a bit marginal on fresh powder snow i.e. about 4 inches deep. |

I just got these in 16" for my oem wheels two weeks ago. They are very quiet, a bit softer ride, but I need to play with the psi to see what works best.
Obviously no snow yet and the weather has been very warm, but they performed great in the rain we had this past week, can't wait to try them in the snow. I got these for an excellent price, they are made in Europe not China or Korea (if that makes any difference). I think for the price they are a great choice. |

I got them in the 225/40/18 size. Not as firm as the summer Michelins. I did notice they are a bit squirmish cornering fast, but who does that with snow tires right?
I was looking at the Pirelli Sottozero Serie 2, but was told the Pirelli's are on heavy back order and Allen at Simplytires suggested I try these. So far I've driven them for about 500 km and pretty happy with them, especially in the rain we've had. Can't wait to try them out in the snow.

Forgot to mention, Semperit is part of the Continental Tire group, and has better brand recognition in Europe.
There is a new version of the tire out, but I only managed to get the older version. Perhaps the new ones have not arrived in North America yet.

I have these on my stock 17" for my winter setup and I've already gone through one season with them and I have no complaints. They are quiet, the ride is pretty comfortable, and for the most part maintains grip pretty well under a variety of conditions during the winter months.

I put these on my wifes's car in March 2010 and they work well. (16" size) She drives 100 km each day on the Gardiner and Erins Mills Pkwy, over to 401 and Derry Rd. She has had no complaints with them.

I've been using Semprit Speedgrips for about 4 years now..And they are real good..In Toronto winter weather, i dont see any difference from Blizzak, M3 or x-ice.

Has anyone else had any problems with thse tires? My wife would have complained if she did. Besides the 500 km to work each week, she drives to up to Queeensville on the weekends, and there is more snow there than in the city.

- heavy fresh snow, unplowed, 4 inches deep - from dead stop, climbing the ramp - lots of wheel spin but climbing i have 225 semperits. it would have been a little different had i went for thinner semperits, like 205 or even 195. since i drive at least 50% highway and often dry, high performance winter tires are recommended for that application. Q, S and T rated tires are a bit too squirmish at high speed. |

I used to have Hankook Icebears on my E46 325i and I would get stuck once each winter after a heavy snow storm, either turning into my driveway or on my street at the end of the day.
This is the reason why I went with xDrive. Hopefully the Semperits + XDrive will get me through the winter.

Initial Review
We finally have had some winter like weather here in the GTA and after driving around with these tires the last fews days I am happy with the performance so far. I've driven on snow covered, ice covered and slushy roads and the tires were predictable and reliable.
I have to say I love driving the E90 in the winter; the RWD and electronics make this a very predictable car to drive in snow. Last edited by Bajan Loch; 12-30-2011 at 08:57 AM.. |

Had these on my Z4 for a season. Loved them, very good. Gripped well, and could let the car go sideways if you want with DTC on. Never got stuck with them.
I'm running Hankook i'Pikes right now, very grippy in the snow BUT the sidewalls are mush. The car handles like its riding on jell-o.... but, as I said, snow traction is apparently superb. A few days ago was very slippery in Toronto and I tried all kinds to get the car to go sideways, even without traction control on. Tires fiercely grip the snow. Don't recommend for highway driving though. |
