Update for MP3 playback in NAVI equipped pre-Sept E90 available yet in Canada/US?

I've read through some of the more recent threads on MP3 playback for pre-Sept production cars with navi. I can't find a conclusive answer. Is there an update that will enable MP3 playback? Particularly in Canada/US. Thanks.

Yes, you need your dealer to upgrade your car to CIP 20.0 and patch the separate MP3 update for the CCC. They only work in conjunction.

I dont think i have heard of anyone with a pre-sep car having this update and it making mp3 cds readable (navi or not).

I myself am waiting patiently

There are single voices of users in germany who got the update and say their MP3 is now working. Don´t know how reliable those sources are, but there´s reason for hope.

I've got a July 05 build car with prof nav which didn't play MP3's at all. Got the CIP 20 upgrade today and I can confirm it plays mp3s perfectly now, in both the cd and dvd drive!

Dunno what the status in the US/Can is tho.

could you please check if you can enter also a destination - for example the name of a city - by voice control (i read in another post you have voice control)?
Pre-september cars need entering it by iDrive joystick, voice control stops to "enter destination", with last sw version you can enter address, city etc. by voice control.
I'd like to know if CIP 20 upgrades it also.

My dealer (in Germany) got the update just before (or maybe just after) New Year, and the BMW TIS for NA has been updated to show CIP 20. So in theory it should be available. It all depends whether or not your dealer is on the ball. I think they can even download directly from BMW, but I may be wrong. Give the service department a call and ask if it's available or when they expect to have it.

MP3 "retro-fit" is now also available in Australia. I'll be booking my car in soon ... finally :rocks:

I got the following email from my dealer last week, which he received from BMW Australia:

FROM *** AT BMW AUSTRALIA:

Hi ***
You will need to program this vehicle with CIP 20.0 then carry out the retrofit for MP3.

Please refer to PuMA Measure 4283908-03 which outlines this procedure.

Then the CCC will play MP3 recorded discs but please make your customer aware that not all self record CD’s will play correctly and he should take this into consideration if problems are experienced.

Well the techs in South Africa seem to have access to the fix so I've booked my car for it's retofit. Let's hope it works since the CIP 20.0 upgrade wasn't good enough on it's own to resolve the problem.

Interestingly on the 5 Series the patch only works for Euro cars

Lets hope USA E90 can get it to work
