Modification to support driving in Europe

Great post and appreciated! I am considering the retrofit on my 2008 BMW 328i. Are there any additional steps need for the CIC to pick up traffic and navigation in Germany? I am currently living abroad. I appreciate any insight that you can provide. Have a great day!

I am not sure how the CIC picks up traffic in the EU.

CIC(and CCC) picks up traffic in EU using FM-subband (TMC) when navigation info provides frequencies of these FM channels

Question for NickO43, did you enable bluetooth tethering and if so, what parameters did you set with NCS Expert to enable this?

I did this and thought everything was good, bluetooth audio works, SMS messages works, phone works, but can't seem to get internet to work, at least the Bluetooth Tethering.

All I get is No Active Data Transfer.

FWIW, I'm using a Note 9 with Bluetooth WiFi tethering enabled and I've read a ton of post on numerous forums and that confused me more than ever. One thing I didn't add was the $614 option, not sure if that will do it.

Got ya. I was hoping the Internet connection would still work to access webpages via my phone tethered to the combox.

I grabbed a 4G combox on ebay this week. I am hoping with the new technology I can get it working.

it will not work until dealer will not associate IMEI of this combox with your car CIC and Combox VIN in BMW Coonnected Drive servers database.

What if I used an emulator with the CIC and then flashed new FSC certs for the donor combox vin to the cic?

should work just like how the nbt + atm retrofits are working, using the donor vin.

but... isn't the 4G Combox BN2020, not BN2000? Can it just be plugged in?

One further thought that came to mind is that the KCAN connection is only for BMW Assist.
Since the idea here is retrofitting a combox from a salvage yard vehicle, BMW Assist will not work anyways. If Assist is removed from the VO, and the KCAN connection is left disconnected, then in theory any F series 4G combox should work in an E series CIC installation.
All data is transmitted over the MOST network, and the MOST protocol didn't change from E to F.
