Which 335i to go for?

Looking at coming back to the fold.

Short list is either

a e90 335i 2010 n55 with 40k

A f30 335i 2012 with 77k

Both have full bmwsh

Both look clean. The f30 does have better options

The f30 has had timing chain and injectors done 5k ago. the e90 I have no info as yet

Any advice or opinions appreciated both are the same price there abouts

If price is the same, then F30 every time.

What options does the F30 have?

I would go with the e90. I always believe the last of a model is better than the 1st of the newer one.

Also you'll be able to get a comprehensive bmw warranty on either car if it's got a full bmw history to cover any unexpected costs.

F30 has
Heated luxury leather seats
Adaptive headlights
High beam assist
Widescreen nav
Cruise control with braking
Folding rear seats
19" wheels although I'm not sure that's a good thing for me so may change

E90
Electric seats
Widescreen cic
Not sure about folding rear seats

Tricky really obviously the gearbox is a massive bonus on the f30 they are both autos I didn't mention that

I definitely recommend test driving both to see what you like better. Before I upgraded from a pre-LCI 335i to my 335is, I test drove a M235i and felt that the electronic steering really took away from the driving experience.

Good luck!

The thing that puts me off the E90 is the spec. If I was paying top money for a E90, I would want the basic options like xenon lights and USB, Bluetooth audio, etc.

Garage List
2011 E90 M3  [0.00]
Interesting one. I did a similar thing, but with manual cars. All 335i's though. Went E91 (N54) to F31 (N55) and then back to E90 (N55).

The E9* drives so much better than the F3*. The tech in the F3* was a step up. The quality of the cabin plastics a step down. The steering in the F3* is poor. At least the E9* 335i still uses a hydraulic rack.

The one plus point for the F3*, if you're looking at auto 'boxes, is that the ZF8 is certainly superior to the ZF6.

Given the choice, I'd take and E9* over a similarly priced F3*. However, the E9* would need to be properly loaded, and I'm talking pro nav, heated electric memory seats, adaptive xenons, Logic 7 or Individual audio, DAB etc. These things bring it closer to te F3*.

Thanks all for your responses.

I thought the e90 has Xeon headlights as it had washers in the bumper but on closer inspection I can see there is a switch next to the lights to adjust the dipped headlight level.

That's a deal breaker for me.

Why anyone would get washers installed with normal halogen headlights is beyond me.

Bugger

I used to enjoy looking for a new car but can't find the right one!

My E91 is the same and to be fair I agree with you but i know its not a massive ball ache to retro fit so thats my plan eventually.

Hi Dann, on an e90 probably no more than 12.5k really.

Many Thanks

E92 not an option? Can have the DCT then which is better than the zf8. I wasn't impressed with the 335d hire car I had for 2 months last year. The interior wasn't particularly nice. Felt inferior quality to my e92 high line. The leather definitely wasn't as good.

Sadly not, children need to get in the back. 2 doors would be a pain.

E91 would be ok.

Anything petrol I think at this point now, or a small diesel. My journeys would ruin a larger Diesel engine. Just want a good spec.

I regret selling my 330i now.

Great thread and interesting as I'm looking to do exactly the same thing. I have a new 430d gran coupe m-sport plus, great car and spec in snapper rocks blue, great engine but leaves me cold as the Antarctic. I just can't gel with it at all, I think my heart would describe it as crap. Previously had a 640d gran coupe which I loved, and several 5 series before an e92 and e93. I loved my e92, a 325i highline m-sport and the best made of all of them save the 640d which was similar.

My circumstances have now changed and my other half has a Macan, and I'm now doing a large mileage again so there's no point in putting big miles on my 430d. It's a waste and seeing as I pretty much consider the car a waste of space it's time to get rid of it.

I'm therefore going to go back to a petrol (wary of anti diesel issues and live in London so the ULEZ zone) large engined e series either a coupe or convertible. Avoiding the 320i as to be fair (and no offense) hugely underpowered, and wouldn't touch a 320d unless it was free with the timing chain issues... no way.

So, a long winded response but OP, the 335 will leave you cold as a wet kipper. Don't do it.
