E91 Rear number plate fixings
Currently my rear number plate is stuck on, but in the coming days I'll be putting my private plate on. The new plate will be put in one of those love them or hate them number plate holders. Therefore I will need to attach the holder to the boot lid. So my question is - when I peel my old plate off, will I find some proper threaded holes that I can use to mount the holder? If so, what size bolts will I need? If not, what can I use to stick them on with as I don't want to drill holes in my boot?
Note - let's not turn this in to a thread about whether people like or dislike number plate holders. I just want to know how to attach it! Nick. |

From memory when I changed my plates over I can’t recall seeing any holes in the boot lid for a number plate to be fixed too.
I’m 95% sure that the original plate was just stuck on and so that’s what I done with my new plate. |

There are two threaded holes which I presume you can screw the holder to. I just used number plate screws from Halfords. I think the holes have threaded nylon inserts so some flexibility on screw size but not certain on this.

Well I put my new plates and holders on today, and I can confirm that on the boot lid there pre-drilled holes with plastic inserts in them. So just a couple of self tappers is all that was required.
The surprising thing was that my insurance company (Aviva) didn't charge me a stupid administration fee for swapping my plates which was a result! When I was with Admiral they charged me a stupid amount of money just to swap plates. |
