HOW-TO: Replace e90 inline-6 Ground Strap (N51/N52/N54/N55)
Replacing the ground strap on the inline-6 E9x (E90, E91, E92, E93, E82, E88) is really straightforward. You should consider this if your ground cable is corroded or green as you can have a no-start situation if it fails. Replace it when you can!
Applies to N51, N52, N53, N54, N55 engines and E90, E91, E92, E93, E82, E88 chassis and possibly more. 1. Remove splash shield with 8mm screws 2. Remove chassis-side ground strap bolt located on the driver side (13mm) 3. Remove engine-side ground strap bolt located on engine mount arm (13mm) 4. Reverse to install new ground strap.
