Pheonix Charge Pipe Install and Review with Video

Ordered a Pheonix charge pipe from BMS to replace my blown stocker. I'm fairly happy with it. It looks like it's manufactured a little better now, and I think BMS may have cleaned up the inside a bit. Pipe is solid, and the fit at the throttle body is very accurate. Exact enough in fact, that it required quite a bit of angling for position to get it to slide on, lol.

Car feels a little stronger from 4k'ish on, but nothing revolutionary. I'll happily take a little more power from a reliability mod.

The only thing I'm unhappy with is the way it presses the coolant hoses from the reservoir against the buddy of the car. I noted this in the second video. I might re-route the hoses. Any suggestions?

You will have to install the pipe on the TB first. If you're wrestling the TB connection and trying to force it on, you don't have the pipe positioned properly. Once you have the charge pipe angled properly, it will slide onto the the TB with minimal force. I suggest installing the coupler as far up on the pipe as possible before attaching it to the TB. Remember to install a new o-ring as well. I had no trouble ordering a new o-ring and spring clip from my dealer.

You will have to wrestle the intercooler outlet pipe into the coupler. I had the coupler slid as far up the charge pipe as possible. Pete the intercooler outlet pipe back as far as possible, and use the other hand to work the bottom lip of the coupler around the intercooler outlet pipe.

Great review! I've had my cp from then for a while and really like it. Except the same reason as you stated about it leaning on the nose I moved mine around a little and got it to fit an it. I just found out tho the I cannot run the p3cars boost gauge ( non OBD) I wen to install it yesterday and try space they supply is WAY to big,and because of the raised housing on the cp the sensor litteral doesn't sit in the pipe I have to call them tomorrow and see if there's a different spaced. Or I'm tapping the cp :/

Thank you for the kind words.

Did you adjust the fitment of the charge pipe or move the hose? The cp is on the throttle body so solidly I don't think it will move much no matter what I do.

Can't to into a vacuum hose somewhere for the gauge? The CP metal is kinda soft and rather thin, which may make it easy or hard depending on what kind of fitting you are trying to use.

I had to buy a tap to install the meth bungs since the threading was garbage. I have not installed it yet so I have no comments on fitment.

Did you install an aftermarket methanol injection nuzzle, or just the plugs from the kit?

I assume your question was directed at me. I installed two CM7s and both threads were too tight and needed to be opened up. Terry said you should expect to have to run a thread chaser through them if you plan to install meth bungs. IMO if you're not running meth on both ports you should switch to the other supplied caps as they have a tighter fit. The ones that shipped in the pipe were pretty loose.

Ah ok. I will check the caps and probably switch if/when the next time I take it off the car.

I have also read that the bungs stood up too high and would have to be modified to allow the meth nozzle to stick into the pipe far enough. Is this still the case?

I am still running a single CM10 in my ER pipe. When I installed the nozzles into the Phoenix pipe they were barely visible from inside of the pipe. I plan to test it before final installation to see if it needs any modification. If you plan to install some bungs let me know and I will link the thread chaser I bought.

NP.

I ended up swapping out the plugs in the meth bungs. The brass colored ones that came in it were loose as Turbod stated previously. The second ones had some type of sealant in the threads and installed much better. I imagine the brass ones could be corrected with some teflon tape.

I decided to try and adjust the coupler and install again. I slid the end of the coupler as far up the charge pipe as I could after rotating it, and then installed this time by sliding the end of the coupler over the intercooler outlet and then over the TB. This is definitely the best way to do it I've found. The fitment is better now, and it seems to be in better harmony with the power steering reservoir hose.
