sweet deal!...so I guess I will have HPFP and Turbo warranty. Does this cover both wastegates and turbos? Would BMW replace both twins under this service bulletin. I called a few dealers today and they informed me they didn't know about this bulletin...

BMW NA has agreed to extend, to a total of 8 years or 82,000 miles, whichever comes first, the emissions warranties covering the Settlement Class Members’ vehicles for any failure of a turbocharger caused by a defect in a turbocharger wastegate. this has been posted at the beginning of this thread, i dont think they could have made it any more clear. |

hi everyone,
so this is something no one has answered yet: what other causes can make the turbo fail other than the waste gate on a stock 335?..... again 100% stock and what are the probabilities of making something other than the waste gate fail on the turbos? this may be a stupid question for some people, but for someone like me is very helpful. i was quoted $5500 yesterday before i knew about this extended warranty, my car has 65k miles so that gives me hope, my least concern is the dealer playing dumb and not wanting to do it, ill make those b***es do it, im just hoping it is the waste gate that is causing the problem, thanks for any response. |

Anyways so far they found that 1 turbo is leaking oil due to the wastegate actuator. So they have put in a Puma case and will work toward resolving the issue. ^_^ |

I think mine is doing the same but I'm not sure if it's tied to the waste gate actuator? Do have that clanking noise coming from yours?

You could clearly hear it when the car was cold / first started then it would subside but you could hear it a little bit, my guess is the oil was keeping the rattle down lol I was also throwing Under boost during WOT |

I have lately been throwing codes under wide open throttle with a JB3 Map 5. Not sure if it is a boost code or not as I do not want to take it to the dealership and have them see a tuner code. Any ideas on seeing what the code is? And I assume I chould clear them out before I take it in....at least if a tuner one pops up. Also my rattle occurs when it starts cold, but I really dont notice it once its warmed up, is this still an issue?

They will tell you that it's normal on start up for a little rattle. However under acceleration you shouldn't hear rattle if you do, my money is on wastegates! |

Thanks Joe, now I just need to be able to tell if it is a wastegate or the exhaust flap.

I am a bit confused about this bulletin. Will this extended warranty cover the loud and obnoxious rattle from the wastegates under deceleration even if the turbos are working properly otherwise?
-Thanks |

the 335i is covered for the HPFP, and the Turbos Only if the wastegates are the cause of the failure.

Why go with stock turbo?
So even if you are swapping out under warranty or out of warranty... why would you ever want to get the stock turbos? The labor will be the same... why not just get the RB Turbos?
Can't you get the RB Turbo for $3k and the install is what the shop charges you, your still going to be under the $5500 that the stealership charges. Shop around at different dealership, see which one will let you provide your own turbos to install and then just send in the new stock turbos for a core refund to RB? Seems like a win/win to me?? |

Since I am swapping out under warranty I don't see a point in not getting new turbos for free, and not pay anything. If anything I would benefit more from selling the stock turbos and then buying RB's since stockers would be in full working condition. I can see if I was out of warranty then drop those stockers out than get RBs and roll! |

I sure if something failed soon, and you called BMWNA, they might help you out a little bit. BMW is extending the warranty because they know something is wrong.
