Air Scoops N52

Hi Everyone,

So, I installed airscoops on my 328 and have been positively surprised by the slight increase in acceleration at higher speeds. The engine also feels smoother and revs a bit more freely.

The scoops I purchased:

Video on them:

I have seen quite a few people install these and the consensus is that they aid slightly in performance. My own experience testifies to their efficacy.

The following thread led me to research and purchase said part:

Very easy to install, highly cost effective with a discernible impact on performance.

All this does is remove cool air from the front of the radiator. This is not a net positive mod.

I agree with this. I had the scoops installed but when I started cleaning up my build and stripping weight I got rid of them. The fastest 1/4 mile times I’ve run were without the scoops.

I propose this. In this modern (post year 2000) age of CAFE standards and EPA regulations the manufacturers have been looking for every ounce of performance and economy they can get. If molding some plastic scoops for about $0.50 would make a difference then BMW would have done it already. If scoops increase power then they would also increase economy.

Also, just look at your radiator where the snorkels attach and you can see it already creates a high pressure area at the top of the grill. The radiator isn’t free flowing air through it, it is pushing air upwards into the snorkels, effectively doing already what you theorize the scoops do

When someone runs a faster 1/4 mile time than me with scoops installed maybe I’ll add them back in lol

I’m going to have to agree with both of them, Instead of air scoops for the supplementary air, install a DIY Dinan air intake from your fog lights grill area. Doesn’t decrease cooling

They also feed all the dirt straight into your air cleaner. I ended up removing my scoops as i was having to clean and re oil my k&n filter a lot.
