E90 Menu Unlock
I've got 2 questions for you:
1) I read a trick on the MT web site to unlock the BMW menu. I would like to know if some had tested it ? and if yes, what arrived ? and how to relock the menu. here is what I read: For 'navigation' in the menu's, use the 'mileage reset button'. To get IN the menu's push that button for approx. 15 sec. Keep it pressed until you get the "01.__" in the display between the RPM and speedo-meter. "XX.YY" means the menu-numbers. If you want increase the "XX" part, push the 'mileage reset' button for approx. 2 sec. As soon as you see "XX.__", you can increase XX by pressing the 'mileage reset' button. Every 'push' increases "XX". If you want to increase the "YY", when the display shows, for exmaple "01.00", then every 'push' on the 'mileage reset', will increase the "YY" value. 01.00 FGSTNR = "Fahrgestellnummer" (Chassisnumber) 01.01 K-ZAHL W/T 01.02 BMWTNR 01.03 COD DIA 01.04 KI HSTL DATUM = "Herstellungs Datum" (Manufactored/Essembled on date...) 01.05 ??? 01.06 SW 01.07 KODIERDATEN 01.08 CAN 02.00 KI TEST = Dashbord test. All light, gauges, displays and so on will light up, move.... works only when the engine is NOT running. 03.00 ??? (maybe it will show something after your first 'service', motoroil change) 04.00 MOM VBR = actual fuel consumption 04.01 RW-VBR-MOM = fuel consumption per hour 05.yy average fuel consumption 06.00 how much you have in your 'tank' in liters. Left- and Right compartment and Total 06.01 dito in hex? 07.00 KTMP-MOM = Temp. Cooling Fluid (celcius) 07.01 ATMP-MOM = "Aussentemperatur" Temp. Outside (celcius) 07.02 dito in hex? 07.03 N-MOT-MOM = RPM 07.04 N-VWF-MOM = max. RPM at the moment. E60 it gives a vlaue. E90 it shows "-----" 08.00 V-EFF = exact speed 08.01 V-ANZ = "Anzeige" speed shown on dash.. 08.02 V-SZ 08.03 D-GESCHW 1 WEG 08.04 D-GESCHW 1 ZEIT 08.05 D-GESCHW 2 WEG 08.06 D-GESCHW 1 ZEIT 09.00 Voltage 10.00 KM/WOCHE 11.00 ??? , has to do how the time will be displayed 11.01 km or miles 11.02 Celcius or Fahrenheit 11.03 how to display fuel consumption. km/l or l/100km or mpg 12.00 V-ANKUNFT = arrival time 12.01 ANK-ZEIT = time of arrival 13.00 AUDIO = all(?) sounds. Like the 'boing' of the 'light on warning' 14.00 FS EINTRAEGE = error messages (if any) 15.00 Oil temp?? 16.00 Dashbord lighting. 17.00 Temp inside in the car?? 18.00 CC-TEST = you can see some of the 'check control' messages. Look also at the iDrive screen! 19.00 UNLOCK 20.YY to 23.YY ??? That UNLOCK stuff is also important. If not UNLOCKed, you can only see menu's 01 and 02. In the '19' menu you must 'click-in' a unlock code. That code you can calculate from the "FGSTNR" number. You must add the last 5 figures of that FGSTNR number. for example: : XXXXXX12345 the unlock code will be: 1+2+3+4+5=15 20.YY to 23.YY There is more to discover...... 2) I have the iDrive with 8"8 screen but not the TV option. I would like to know if it is possible now to add the TV option easily (of course it would have been better to choose it at the beginning ) Thank you by advance for your answers

stuff like this really interests me. and there HAS to be secret stuff like this that is possible. i mean, the car is soooo advanced, that secret options and menus have got to exsist. weather its boring stuff that EVERY mechanic at BMW knows. or weather its something slightly more secretive. i dont know. even on the acura forum people are taking their navi dvds and putting them into their computers and "hacking" things. im very interested in whats available.

I tried the dashboard test (no2.) it's cool...but pretty boring after 2 times.
I don't think the tv option is available at all on the smaller 8" screens. You might have to go very aftermarket and get someone to attach a tuner and a spliter. But you most likely won't be able to use the idrive nob and bmw interface for tv funtions. |

I went to my dealer with that printed out a few weeks back...gave it to one of the service guys and asked him if he could get ( 08.01 V-ANZ = "Anzeige" speed shown on dash.. ) that to work....i really want my current speed in digital read out in the little screen. the service guy said he couldnt do it.
i dont really believe him....i just think he didnt want to bother trying. anyone know if it is actually possible?

Broken: you had tried the dashboard test (no 2) did you see what are n°20.YY to 23.YY ?
I've got the larger screen so the same as the one with TV. But I don't know if it's just a programming problem or if I have to put additional things like TV receptor and cable or if it's like Killdork said: "TV-tuner being buildt into all iDrives and that it could be enabled via the computer the service technicians use." My dealer answered that he didn't know .... tss Another things is strange, there is no liquid temperature info by default (only with the unlock menu 7: "07.00 KTMP-MOM = Temp. Cooling Fluid (celcius)") , we just have info on oil level. But this mustn't be a secret info. All car have it. Same things with the Chassisnumber, this is not a secret things, we can have it with the online help option by nav menu. Thx for your answers

Oops, forgot to post this question at the same time...
Has anyone verified the difference between the "actual speed" readout and the speedo readout. I would assume that being completely electronic, the speedo could show the actual speed, but there seems to be two speed readouts on the computer, actual and displayed speed. Would be very interested to know how large the difference actually is. Can't wait to get my car to find out, but in the mean time if anyone knows, I would be interested.

Just print out the OP instructions and follow it as you go along. Your engine doesn't have to be on, only the key needs to be inserted. Just make sure you unlock first according to menu 19. The interesting menus for me are: 7.00 coolant temp, and 8.00 exact speed |

this is jsut a copy / paste of the text on MT web site. And it wasn't clear to me too on the first time a read it.
The mileage button is the one you use to check for exemple your oil level. In fact, if you press the mileage reset button more than 15 sec, you could see a menu and sub menu wich is different from the one if you only press the button during 1, 2 or 3 seconds. In fact not verry different but more complet and give you acces to more infos. the menu is listed with 01, 02, 03, and so one in each menu you have sub menu. For exemple in menu 01 you have: 01.01, 01.02 ... To change menu you press the mileage button during 2 sec and to change the sub menus you press it faster. The description of each menu and sub menu is listed in the first post. |

Any chance this could be sticky'ed ? Or maybe we need another forum strictly for reference information (this, manuals, etc) ?

I am pretty technically literate person, actually I am software designer. But the first post is really cryptic. I do understand that it was copy and paste from some other website. But can someone tell me if I can do the same thing on a non-iDrive car? Still don’t understand what is this mileage button – is it present on the non-iDrive cars? Is this the one that you use to reset your trip odometer?
