Thinking of swapping from JB4 to MHD
Its been three years with jb4 and I have enjoyed it for the most part. The past few months has been plagued with not only coronavirus, but the most annoying .2psi overboost that has caused me getting kicked out of map7 waaaay too many times for my blood pressure to handle. All 20 of the logs Ive done have "looked good" per the experts, but after tweaking settings week after week I'm kind of fed up with it as there seems to be no solution. So enter my thinking of getting mhd.
I finally own an android phone which makes mhd much more appealing than pulling out the laptop or paying 150 for a BT connect kit to log as well. So what are you thoughts on mhd vs jb4? I will be going with stage 2+ E50 if I make the switch. Here are some other questions I have on the matter: Is it still possible for me to hit the same 19.5 boost target on mhd as Ive been getting on jb4? Does it have any failsafes if an ecu parameter isnt looking good? Does n54tech support datalog reviews for adjustments? If not, where do you mhd users get your support and review from? Anything else I should know? Thank you for any advice.

MHD now has an iPhone app.
You could run JB4 with BEF. I’ve been using that since last Thanksgiving and highly recommend it. BEF brings DME to higher performance level so that JB4 has less massaging to do. BEF from Burger is free on N54 site but you still need MHD to load it. |

I've had tuned N55 powered cars for about 6 1/2 years now. I have ran the JB4, JB4 + Cobb BEF, JB4 + MHD BEF, and MHD with a custom tune. Although a BEF does make the JB4 experience better it still doesn't compare to the full flash only solution. Driving with the JB4 the power is less consistent from pull to pull, partial throttle really sucks with the JB4. The best way to think of MHD is factory feel but with more power. It is smooth and more liner than the JB4.
Is it still possible for me to hit the same 19.5 boost target on mhd as Ive been getting on jb4? Yes you can target boost up to the limits of your MAP sensor. Does it have any failsafes if an ecu parameter isnt looking good? The DME has built in fail safes but not like you're thinking when coming from the JB4. It isn't going to start targeting a lower boost because a certain condition happened. IMO this question should really be pointed at a tuner. Does n54tech support datalog reviews for adjustments? If not, where do you mhd users get your support and review from? N54tech is the JB4 forum. Although some of the users over there can read MHD logs, you're really asking questions in the wrong crowd. Most people upload their logs to data zap .me. It seems that most people ask for assistance in the MHD thread. If you were to get a custom tune then your tuner would be reviewing the logs and making the adjustments for you. Anything else I should know? I would absolutely give MHD a shot. As said above they recently started supporting Apple devices with the introduction of their wireless dongle. I have found that although I prefer the driving experience with MHD that neither tune is perfect. I haven't seen a good boost by gear option, boost isn't doing exactly what you want with either tune, I like the layout of the JB4 logs better than MHD and datazap .me.

So I already have the MHD BEF on. If I were to swap to a full MHD flash, could I uninstall the bef and turn jb4 to map 0 while keeping it hooked up?

You would need to buy a map pack or custom tune along with the monitoring module.

Post up a JB4 log as it's setup now and lets see how it's running. If you are exceeding the safe range for the factory 2.5bar TMAP sensor why not upgrade to a 3.5bar TMAP sensor? You'll need that regardless of how it's tuned. Alternatively if you just don't care about safety could disable the JB4 over boost safety system all together.
JB4 can be used with any flash map you want, their free maps, MHD flash only maps, custom maps, etc. |
