street / track pads
Going out for a HPDE in a couple weeks and I was thinking of swapping in a more aggressive pad to stop this 3800lb boat. Whats a decent go to pad for the e90s? Something more aggressive than a HPS.

I use Hawk HT-10's. The only downside is that when I'm done I need to swap in the street pads ASAP because they make your car sound like a garbage truck that needs a brake job.

Its tough serve both duties. HPS and HP+ won't cut it.
Ferodo 2500 will take a lot more heat before giving up and still be very streetable. If you need more pad than that you need two sets of pads. |

I just stick with HPS because I don't want to swap out everytime and my car is primarily a street car. I have used the HPS pads on many cars and I love them.
If you want to be really competitive at a HPDE then you need a designated track setup but it sounds like you aren't doing very many so I would just stick with what you have for now. I used the stock pads at a few HPDE/ Time Attack events and they held up very well to the extra abuse |

Yeah I tried dual purpose once and it was ok on the street and not consistent on the track. Hawk HPS.
Id recommend PFC01 as a dedicated track set. |

Endless mx72. Pricey, but sooooo worth it. Check out what the m3 and gtr guys think of them.
Don't forget the motul rbf.

I just received my Endless ME20 track pads after waiting 5 months or the custom order. Haven't tried them yet cause I'm waiting for my coils.....
But that's a good idea BMWsky, I'll bed in only the track pads as I don't abuse the oem ones on street. Hey Doyle, have u tried the MX72's on track??

I daily and track my Carbotechs. So called "street/track" pads (i.e. Cool Carbon) didn't work well with me at the track. Carbotechs are pretty beast, but slightly more expansive than other track pads. Doesn't seem to wear too too fast either.
Yes, my car sounds like a garbage truck, and yes, I do get some feedback from ppl telling me weird shit. I personally have no prob living with it, but I understand why most ppl would. |

I have (Summit Point Jefferson) as well as street and autox. So far pretty good on all fronts.
HPDE: my car, with driver and instructor, probably weighed around 4200#. never once worried about fade. I was able to brake deeper than most other more experienced drivers. I don't think Jefferson is that hard on brakes, but I was satisfied. biggest plus was their progressive/linear feel. Not on/off. Street/autox: come up to temp pretty quick. Good initial bite/feel. Squeak at drive-thru speeds. Also, like I mentioned above, much better drivers of M3s and GTRs choose them for dual purpose and are almost universally happy.

We have found Ferodo DS2500 to be one of the best street and track pads out there, much better than Hawk HP+. Taking a street pad such as Hawk HPS and Coolcarbon to a track day may be okay as long as you keep them nice a cool, otherwise they can fade rather quickly and in worse case senarios starts to smear pad materials unevenly all over your rotors.
It is recommended that you perform a bed-in procedure between pad changes. |
