Rear koni yellow issue

I just installed some koni yellow struts in my e92 and the rear upper 17mm bolt seems to bolt down much further on one side compared to the other.

The driver side bolt shows about 7 threads deep and can go further whereas the passenger side top strut bolt shows only 3 threads and is fully tight. Anyone have an idea of what's going on?

you didn't seat the shock correctly in the shock mounts or the shock mount itself wasn't seated correctly?

The "shock mount" = The lower bushing part of the strut?

Which part of this diagram?

Guessing part #5...?

I'll pull it apart tomorrow night again and check. I should probably replace the mounts while I'm at it.

Or wait, the upper mount would effect the length of the strut... I guess either way I'm pulling it apart again lol

Something is wrong with upper mount, not lower.

What he means is if the upper mount assembly is not seated in the hole properly the rod won't extend up high enough. Also check that all the pieces are there in the correct order, esp. the little sleeve thing that goes inside the clamshell foam halves of the mount (#6), and the bottom cup is in place and facing the right way (#4):

You should ask Santa for a Bentley manual, ECS has them the cheapest that I could find.

Yeah I'm usually pretty good at just winging it but that would be a smart purchase

Soooo the driver side was missing the sleeve that sits between the top bolt and the mount which was allowing me to over tighten the bolt. All is good now!

Nice work noticing the discrepancy and tracking it down. If left out that missing sleeve could have caused some expensive problems down the road.
