Turbocharged N52 2007 328i with video and pics

Finally Turbocharged my manual E92 328i.

Posted some things in this thread already http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=665812&page=3, decided to just start a new one.

The turbo system consists of... GT35R single turbo, Custom turbo manifold, 80lb injectors, AEM FIC, Turbo Smart wastegate, 3" SS Downpipe to 4" exhaust, AEM wide band gauge, Turbo Smart boost controller. N54 oil filter stand and N54 oil cooler.

Body is converted to M3 panels, and widened the rear 5" wider than an M3, COR wheels 20x10 front 20x12 rear. Tein coilover suspension with electronic dampening controller (EDFC).

Low boost 9psi, mid boost 11psi, high boost 13psi.

Never dynoed, but figure in the 420hp range on mid boost. Drive with a couple of friends with M4's. Barely beat stock M4's and barely get beaten by JB4 equipped M4's. Running out of fuel on high boost due to stock fuel pump not keeping up, so don't use it at the moment.

Its my daily driver, been turbo for about a year now. Still holding together "knock on wood...Pray to god" lol.

I do have a broken second gear at the moment, and have gone through multiple clutches.

Next on the upgrades is
adding another fuel pump so I can run on high boost pressure.
N54 manual transmission upgrade and
N54 flywheel and clutch.

I started this project in 2007 (here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81727is the thread from back then) but was sidelined for years when I started having Kids. Here we are 9 years later, 4 kids later, two mini vans later lol

Will try to post updates of further progress as much as possible.

My YouTube video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDUUdmmo-D0. Have more on my YouTube Channel. Will Try to add more vids.

Can also see more pics on my personal instagram @jaysonpunancy and on my shop instagram @jamascoautorepair and on the shop Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Jamasco-Aut...35156/?fref=ts

I really do have a Mini Van and its hooked up too lol

How long have you had this set up? How many miles on it?

What were the biggest challenges? How did you sort out the tune? Are you still running maf? Did you try stock injectors first before moving on the aftermarket ones?

In the video, it seems like you have SES light on. What is that about? Other than transmission, what else broke? How did you set up your turbo? Is it running on custom headers ( I am assuming yes)? Any pictures of the set up?

This just proves the theory of people who ask if something can be done (if you have to ask, the answer is no), and the people who just do it.

now, get that thing hooked up with a better clutch/trans & fuel pump and put it on a dyno!

Wow that's a lot of questions lol..

Had the setup for about a year now.
Ball park guess about 8000 to 10000 miles.
I drive it from home and work and pick up and drop off my two oldest kids to school in it 5 days a week. I also did a couple drives to the Florida Keys and to Disney World in it.
Actually did a drive to Key Largo this past Saturday with a group of about 40 cars, ran a supercharged E90 M3 from a 50 mph roll and was a really close race, he barely got out in front of me.

The biggest challenge was the piggy back and tune.
Tuned it myself on the road, took a couple weeks.
Still have the MAF, but only for air temp readings, air volume portion of the MAF is bypassed. I use the onboard MAP sensor from the AEM for boost reading and corrections and the MAP sensor from the N52 but with a one way valve in line so it does not read boost (N52's come with a MAF in intake pipe and MAP in intake manifold).
Yes I did first run with stock injectors, but they were only good to about 8psi on pump fuel and 7psi on E85 fuel.

SES light is due to O2 sensors (not seeing a catalytic converter) and MAF volume bypass, which can be fixed with a DME reflash.
So far I have only broken clutch discs (three total) and transmission second gear (missing teeth). I worked out the clutch problem by welding the dual mass flywheel and recutting it to make it single mass, then I used a non adjustable pressure plate from an E36, then I made a clutch disc welding a center spline from one of my old discs into a 4 puck disc made for a Toyota 3sgte engine.
I built the turbo manifold using the original headers, I Siamesed bank one and two into one and made an up pipe to the turbo and ran a wastegate off of the Siamese. Cheap and works great.
I have pics from when I built it, but have to dig them up.

Hopefully I got all your questions.

I wonder how the injectors would fare with the Supercharger.

In all, great work man.

Wow. You said you own a BMW shop in the other thread and can do custom fabs. Gonna start working on piecing together a few kits for some off the guys on here seeking some boost??

I'm just wondering how much money would cost for someone to put a kit like that in the car?... Im just trying to compare to ESS supercharger .

BTW great work ! Car looks good and sounds incredible

You are the man! Even though I'm not much of a FI guy, I really respect your build. "Just get a 335i" is out of the question now. Maybe you can make some moola buy piecing together a few kits

If you made a kit for this and it was compatible with the n51, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

I know an S4 driver and a 335i driver who I need to piss off.

Dude... DUde... DUDe... DUDE!!! That is simply fantastic not only for doing what the majority said wasn't possible but more so for the fact that you've shut up the "get a 35er" crowd.

I was also impressed with your initial thread where you pointed out the short comings of the 35 (direct injection pump market, plugs etc). I'm sure it has changed since then but it was an interesting take on the newer tech.

Also wanted to say thanks for sharing and not giving up on the build. I hope you will market some sort of system that could get a lot more 328's carrying around a snail
