stains on headliner

The previous owner managed to do this. Any ideas on how I could remove these awful stains without damaging the headliner?

First question is identifying what caused the stain. Without that piece of information it gets difficult to determine how to treat it. The good news is the stain extends to the visor, so that is your test panel.

I'd rent a carpet cleaner with a wand attachment and go to town with that and some oxi clean.

Nap, I can only imagine that she was busy on her cellphone and spilled a drink everywhere. If it doesn’t come out with a carpet shampoo, I’d try a steamer or seek professional help.

Oxi clean is underrated, if the carpet cleaner doesn't work this is your next best bet

I would be very careful here. I had a slight pen mark in the headliner, and as a result of cleaning it, I "succeeded" in replacing it with a light colored circle where the pen mark was. 🤦*♂️. I don't recall what I cleaned it with, but definitely use the visor as a test panel.

I've read that oxi clean can stain the material you're trying to remove the stain from. I will be using the visor as a test panel tomorrow. I hope it works.

Good call on the oxi clean guys. It gets dark so quick I couldn't get any pictures during the daylight, but I took some with the flash on. I didn't want to wait until tomorrow to post back. There are still some lines because it hasn't dried all the way but it looks a lot better.

I cleaned it again just now, I didn't like how it dried. I'll post a picture tomorrow during daylight regardless of what it looks like.

Nice!

Obviously this wouldn’t apply for something so large that’s penetrated deep into the fabric as your stain had, but if you ever get grease or anything else on your headliner, brake cleaner on a lint-free rag or towel works wonders. The idea is to lift the grease or dirt off with light pressure.
