ISTA can't connect to car

I have the program installed and when I try to connect to the car it thinks for awhile and then comes back with an error message- Unable to connect check configuration. I have updated my USB driver. I changed the port settings but still can't get it to work. Ediabas cable is selected in VCI config. Ignition on engine off. Cable is USB to obd2 works with MHD. Am I missing something, or is it a shit cable?

Did you set up standard tools and get Inpa working first?

These are not programs you just download and they work.
They require some PC knowledge and the ability to follow
instructions exactly.
Is Inpa still working?
The are some quite specific instructions for setting up Ista d once
Standard tools (INPA)is workng.
You have to unzip Ista D move it to the correct folder . OPenit drop
the software key in and select the proper Interface.

It also requires Netframework 4.7 or better installed on the PC
with all the C++versions up to date. And you should have windows
7 to 10 with at least 50gb of free disk space

Do not trust eBay vendors with installs. The amount of remote sessions where people have said they had someone from eBay install their software and it doesn't work is insane. I'd recommend bimmergeeks install, it's going to be really hard to tell exactly why yours isn't working so I'd recommend starting with a fresh install.
