330D E90 2011 Saloon - Engine stutter woes - Help!

Started getting hesitations on low revs, when driving around 2000rpm.
Sometimes drive for miles perfect then all of a sudden would start happening......just as if I had lifed foot off throttle then put it back down agaon.
Got worse and worse then eventually engine light came on.

I got a bunch of codes, a few miles after a code reset:

40E9 not present
DDE Exhaust gas circulation controller position control.

4501 present
DDE Exhaust gas recirculation control deviation

4C9E not present
DDE Exhaust gas circulation valve plausibility

4C9F not present DDE Exhaust-gas recirculation valve, plausibility

497D not present
Pressure sensor, plausibility while afterrunning: Exhaust pressure before turbocharger not plausible with ambient temperature.

So, I had changed the Exhaust pressure sensor (the one with the 3 bolts that hold it on) a week or so ago, and I also changed the EGR valve this morning (non BMW part).

Alas, after 3 or 4 miles I get the stuttering again, engine light and all the above codes.

I have a temp sensor on order (thought I had some temp sensor error codes previous).....the one that fits next to the lamda sensor.

Any ideas.....Love my 330D but it's kinda unusable at the mo!

Update:

Took out the MAP sensor and found it was pretty gummed up.....but still appeared to have a ventury down into it......but cleaned it right out with a cotton bud and some IPA.
Gonna order a new one anyways.

Started car on driveway. Erased all codes then 2mins later did a read.

One code only - 40E9 present DDE Exhaust-gas recirculation controller, position control.

A few mins later after revving a little a 2nd code appeared,

2nd code - 4501 present DDE Exhaust-gas recitculation control deviation.

Haven't driven car on road yet.

Ideas/help much appreciated.

Ian.

Hi all,

Hoping I might get some more advice/help.

I had changed the EGR valve for an OEM one.

And, I borrowed a better OBDII reader and cleared all codes, then ran the engine on the driveway for 5 mins.....and got the following:

40E9 - DDE: Exhaust-Gas Recirculation Controller, Position Control = HISTORY

4501 - DDE: Exhaust-Gas Recirculation, Control Deviation = CURRENT

As I understand this is a control loop so any individual part can cause the problem, including the MAF.

Since I had change the EGR valve and there was no change whatsoever I am hesitant to but another, i.e. a genuine BMW part.

Any ideas on my way forward? She's now been off the road a month.

PS. I did buy an OEM MAF and OEM MAP sensor but they sent the wrong ones!

Ian.

When you replaced the EGR, did you just swap the valve or did you remove any of the pipework and check/clean it?

There is a long run of pipe that comes from the EGR, to the back right side of the engine and into the intake, might be worth removing that to check.

If the pipework is blocked could this cause the errors you are seeing with the EGR?

Swirl flaps are known to clog and stick on the N57 as well, not sure it would give EGR errors, but it can cause running issues.
