which car jack

What car jack should I buy (to change winter/summer wheels)? Any special fit needed for a 3-series or would any jack be suitable?

Also any recommendations on wheel nut wrench? And torque wrench if needed?

Thanks for advice/suggestions

Any trolley jack should do, but best to make (your own) or purchase one of the jack addaptors. Such as: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-JACK-P...item46013b2f67

Torque wrench is better to undo and redoup the wheel nuts. But remeber the torque should be done up "dry" and not "wet".

BTW You shouldn't use torque wrenches for undoing bolts, only tightening them.

Just get a 17mm wheel wrench from halfords, or a socket set with a long enough ratchet handle.

Lots of trolley jacks now come with flat rubber coated pads so you can use them straight on our plastic lifting points.

For lifting points just get a £1 ice hockey puk off ebay and cut it into shape 10 min job.

Jack wise you will need one which is very low entry as normal halfords ones dont fit under the 3 series

If you know anyone Costco do a ARCAN one for £100

Bought one last year and its very nice, light and very easy to use.

If anything at least ensure you ahve adpaters for the points. Otherwise you risk crushing/damaging them. £1 from ebay is not much

good luck

If your jack has a flat pad, you don't need any adaptors, the lift points are fine.

What do you think BMW / any other garage use to 'protect' it when lifting your car on their 2 post lifts? nothing, precisely.

You can buy a SEALEY low entry 2t + jack for about £120 delivered.

Have a look at the Sealey Yankee jack. I find its excellent and fits a lowered car too.

Bloody good at that price. Well made and lifts my E91 no problem and hasn't mullererd the jacking points. It's also low enough to get under the car

I bought some years ago a Halfords hydraulic trolley jack which does not lower enough to get under any of the jacking points.
To get around this I run the car up on an Argos catalogue which lifts the car sufficient for the jacks circular platform and the insert I use for the jacking points.
It does the job!

Me too, but if they add your contact details to their customer list then I'm told that they will send the invite/offer - although still waiting!

Scared to jack the car up and ruin the jack point underneath the car. Also is there anywhere to put a jack stand under for extra safety?
