All season tire recommendations? I've never bought a set of tires before
Sorry if this is a repost or a common question, I tried searching a few times and couldn't find what I was looking for.
I have a 2011 E90 335i X-Drive and i'm about to pick up my first set of aftermarket wheels/tires for any car i've had. 18x8.5 +30 in the front and 18x9.5 +35 in the rear and I'm not sure what to get for tires. For size Im going 225/40/18 fronts and 255/35/18 rears since that falls in the safe area for X-drive. I live in Massachusetts so we have a wide range of weather extremes so I'm looking for a good set of non-run flat all season tires. I drive very relaxed 95% of the time and never track my car, if anything I just do a couple straight-line pulls once in a while so I would want tires that give a quiet and smooth ride and can hold up in any weather. Thanks in advance for any suggestions! |

If your staying with run flats you can’t beat Michelin Premiers. After living with Continental’s the first 7 years changing to these is night and day. No longer do I get the pot hole crash suspension explosions and they are excellent in wet weather and snow as well.

I have Toyo Extensa HP II and they've treated me well. Don't expect the same winter performance as snow tires though. On packed snow or ice you'll lose traction if you don't go moderately slow while stopping and going through tight turns.
I've heard good things about the Toyo Proxes as well.

I also live in New England and have essentially the same vehicle. I initially ran Continental DWS but even with X-drive, they wouldn't reliably get me up my 150' driveway with ~12% grade. On ice, nothing.
Now, have a summer set of Conti DW and winter set of Bridgestone Blizzak 001. The blizzaks are noisy and a little vague feeling compared to the DW but they grip incredibly well in wet, snow, or ice. Don't forget that the ability to stop is even more important than the ability to go. To be fair, if it wasn't for the driveway, I'd probably have stayed with DWS |

I liked the Conti DW better in the summer, but the DWS is still a pretty competent 3-season tire. In light snow they will work in a pinch, but if it's icy or more than a couple inches, forget about it. I just leave my 330i in the garage if it's snowing.
Once we had a freak snowstorm in April, like 8-10" in few hours. I had Toyo R888R's on my 91 325ix. I made it home but it wasn't pretty. I switched to my blizzaks but it all melted in a couple days... |

I drive a ton of miles and have gone through 5 sets of all-season tires in the last 2 years. They have varied from Goodyear to Dunlop to General plus a couple more. I've always run dedicated summer and winter tires in the past on all of my cars (Porsches, STis, and more), but these days SS Disability doesn't pay enough to do it right now.
The first thing I need to know is what is your budget? Without that, it's impossible to narrow it down other than I can tell you my last set were Riken Raptors and they were awesome on dry pavement and in light snow. They're under $100 from Tire Rack, and while they don't come with a treadwear warranty due to the low price, they also last decently long considering the price. |

^ I have those. Apparently they’re really good? I don’t track my car and they feel significantly better than the run flats that came with it. Only thing I worry about is one blowing bc then Im real fkd lol

+1 on this. If money isn't a concern then I'd go with those. The Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 are a good second as well. The Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS, and the BFG g-Force COMP-2 A/S are decent as well. I had a buddy run the BFGs on his B5 A4 and he loved them. He said they did well in the snow too.
