DP install for 335xi's a nightmare?

I just read a thread on the NJ/NY subforum where it was stated that the install for the DP's was a nightmare and would need about 6hrs install time. The average labor here is about $100/hr which would mean the install would cost as much as the DP's. Can anyone with DP's on their xi's verify this to be the case? Not only is this expensive, but I am worried about shops refusing to do the work.

It looks like they need to drop the subframe to install DPs on an XI...

A competent shop should take 2-3 hours if they done any previous installs.. if not, then bank on a 4-5hour job. Dropping the subframe or cutting the stock DPs are the two main options to get those stockers out.

you can pull the axle and unbolt the case, but its still a 5-6hr job according to ar design. i dropped the engine/subframe assembly as far as it could go without unhooking the engine electrical and fuel lines and all, and it still took 7hrs to manuver the pipes in and out.
This sounds like a friggin nightmare. I don't know if I trust any joe bloe mechanics shop to do the install. I was going to take it to a specialty exhaust/muffler shop but they have never worked on a BMW before. I wonder if Andrew does refunds

I assume you're talking about my thread?

I went to Matt (itsbrokeagain) to get the UR Xi downpipes installed (along with the BMS O2 sims). I was in and out in 3 hours. Extremely impressed with his work. Everything fit extremely well and the car drives and sounds great.

So it's definitely possible to get the dowpipes in. Just gotta find the right person.
