2009 328i E90 LCI Success!

@hassmaschine & @BimmerLabs Thank you for these tunes! Auto Hut's youtube video of the procedure was the last thing I needed to get the confidence and do the tune. Pretty amazing that BimmerLabs/hassmaschine has done this for us without charging for the 330i flash upgrade (and everyone else that has collaborated, of course).

2009 328i LCI E90, MSV80. Applied the RSA delete and 328i to 330i tune.

I bought a 3-stage manifold from a 2007 X3si (eBay) which was a very good candidate since it swapped over without blocking any ports. I rebuilt the small DISA using the UKar Auto all metal re-build kit and used 88% formic acid to re-bond. Since the large DISA was a little iffy, I replaced it with a new unit from Uro Parts. Maybe when the car has 75K more miles on it, I'll rebuild it with the UKar Auto large DISA kit.

Replaced the oil housing gasket at the same time as the swap since the hard to reach bolt was out in the open. Amazing!

Hopefully this thread isn't bothered by kudos. They're well deserved.

Smile

Hi Hass, I have read thru every single page on this forum and I am very amazed at all of the progress you have made and I am most grateful to you for creating Bimmerlabs. I am currently a constant user on bimmerlabs lol. I have a 325I E90 swapped with a second gen N52 from a E90 328i. I currently finished doing a custom single turbo on the car and I was trying to tune my car but I am using ECM Titanium and it is very hard to tune not really knowing much explanation. I was hoping and wondering if you could send me a pm and possibly give me the xdf file for an MSV70 with the 921 software.

Thank You for your time and for reading this message any help would be greatly appreciated.

Still not willing to sell? Any willingness to share some of the addresses?

I have a project that will likely be using 49PP0L921.

Tune request

Hi guys,

Is there any way to get a bimmerlabs tune?

I tried to contact Bimmerlabs multiple times and also hassmaschine on the forum, but without luck.

I have a 130iLE with stock 265hp with different mods and need help.

I first read this thread, and after that invested time an money in the car, because off hass and rjahl research and knowledge.

I can detail here more, or in private. I also have a dyno sheet.

Thanks a lot,
Tavi

It seems i have chosen the wrong DME type in the first place.
https://www.e90post.com/forums/attac...1&d=1640525190

I chose then the MSD81 and the files are there.
2 tuning files for 2 different DME series.

I will get mine verified and update in here.

Anyone has the DISA check up procedure in INPA somewhere?

The most tricky part is that the INPA read shows me..

Garage List
Aren't MSV80 and MSD80 different boards? I wouldn't cross flash if I was in your shoes, unless you have a spare ECU...

there is something fishy in here.

INPA reads it as MSV80 BUT, still INPA then outputs a result with a Part Number which is an MSD80 on Real Oem.

INPA read

You have a MSD81 and the N53 engine. This engine is not available in the US and it's not supported by bimmerlabs. There is an RSA Delete for the MSD81 because it's the same DME for the N54. BUT N53 and N54 use different ROM versions. N54 uses IJE0S (mainly) and N53 uses IHF0S!

There is a solution to get the 330i file onto your 325i. The steps are:

1. Flash the correct 330i ZB# with WinKFP (comfort mode works fine)
2. Read it with kess.
3. Locate the power class byte and change it.
4. Flash it back with kess.
5. Have fun.

You will need to change your manifold for the 3-stage manifold from the 330i otherwise it will throw errors because of the missing DISA actuators. It is possible to deactivate the DISA error if you know the location in the .bin file.

Some earlier N53's < 03/2008 use the MSD80 but they also use a different ROM version.

Here are some comparison charts with torque and power numbers:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...wXBr4vq8xsm40_

Both are converted from 325i to 330i, one without the 3-stage manifold, one with 3-stage manifold. These are calculated values from the DME without drivetrain loss. The real values are lower but you can see a good difference with and without 3-stage manifold. The RPM range is not ideal but you can see the difference in maximum values. Unfortunately I don't have values from a stock 325i.

The N53 engines usually have less power than BMW claims. Dynos are generally useless if you don't do a dyno run before the conversion. Important is that you always use RON98 fuel or better for full power. With RON95 the DME loweres the ignition timing and you have less power.

I did multiple cars with this method and it works just fine.

Thank you for the answer, my situation is like this:

I already have the 3 Stage Manifold with new DISAs installed waiting to be thrown in.

My concern regarding your solution would be the 325i 'tuning tables' - which are much different than 330i.

So, by changing only the ZB number the DISAs will become active..?

Also, i will do a dyno BEFORE anything, and then AFTER - this will be the only real true comparison

Hi, I read this entire conversation. I do have the same issue with the Kombi module, cluster communication. I'm kind of disappointed, no matter what file I try from bimmerlabs I get the same result. The same 2DE3 error and check engine light.
diedvdijk, rjahl could you please help.

I tried all of your the files in bimmerlabs and even flashing the stock 3.0i file causes the lights. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Can someone help. I can pay for your time.

I have a 2006 z4, instrumental cluster does not have the smart functions, (not sure how is call) only shows time and temp.

Could this be the problem, that the 3.0si file is expecting the more advance instrumental cluster. I'm willing to try anything.

Thx.

Not really sure what you are doing - nothing on Bimmerlabs has anything to do with the Kombi.

2DE3 is a Valvetronic hardware error.

Hi hassmaschine , I did the 3 stage intake update to my car, I'm not sure what went wrong, but after the software update from bimmerlabs my check engine light came on, I did not have any issues before, I came to these forums based on the post below. He was talking to you.

- 2DE2
- 2DE3 (botschaft von der instrumentclusterkobination fehlt, I-Kombi 7) (kein signal)

Inpa translates the 2DE1, 2DE2 codes to the fuel level left right and 2DE3 to general communication.
Error code 2DE3 from my car, translates to a communication problem with the instrumental cluster, google translation below.

Maybe a coincidence or I did something wrong. I flashed back to the stock 3.0i but the errors are still there. I keep reading the forums and yes, error 2DE3 is noted for the Valvetronic, however, my computer is showing something else.

Is it a good idea to replace the Valvetronic? or How do I check my DME for hardware issues/errors? any way to scan it?

Any ideas? Any advice will be appreciated.

Thx.

yeah, none of those codes have anything to do with the flash of the DME, except 2FA3, which can be ignored because it doesn't actually do anything. those 2DXX codes are all coming from your instrument cluster.

I think I might have looked up a different code (it was late) because 2DE3 is in the cluster not the DME. I don't think it has anything to do with valvetronic at all.

Update,

After checking everywhere for possible causes, I found not much info regarding the "2DE3 message instrument panel missing", my instrumental panel is working fine, I have no issues whatsoever, I do feel the difference in power, DISA and 3 stage intake is working. I decided to remove the manifold I put the stock back.
Then I found that the cable from the power box to the knock sensors (ping sensors) was damaged by rodents. It did not have the corrugated plastic shield (I realized this after looking up the replacement part), just the cable itself.

I removed the cable and it was in fact broken. where the arrow is pointing at. See picture #1,
Wires were exposed, I'm not even sure if these sensors retain any charge, but when I took the picture I even saw a small spark.

I ordered the cables, hopefully, this resolves my issue, and no permanent damage was done to my DME.

I will report when I put everything back.

again, instrument cluster errors have nothing to do with the 3-stage swap or tune. But it could be you have more wires chewed up than just those ones.
