Backstory: I have P0175 and P0172, rich and lean in bank 1 & 2, and it starts to detonate around 4K rpm

After changing the plugs and valve cover gasket (I found oil in with spark plug #1) I saw not that much of a difference in driving and still had car was driving terrible.

Took it to a local shop, had it vacuum tested and they gave me a MAF to try out but no change at all. Tech also reset Vanos adaptations and advised me to clean the Vanos filters.

After cleaning the filters and solenoids, the car has been driving noticeably better. But I still have the same DTC.

Could it be clogged cat? Or maybe o2 sensor? Or could the solenoid affect as well?

same issue on mine... i've never found any reason, and it disapppear for long periods... suddenly appears and goes out again without any action.

Makes driving the car annoying! Resetting the Vanos adaptation helped a lot. Went from 14 mpg to 18... how much do you get?
