Diagnostic software

Can someone point me in the right direction for some diagnostic software? Im new to bmws and a bit overwhelmed looking on forums!

I have an elm327 cable and some basic software which i think is ok for basic obd faults but little else. It doest show any faults on the car anyway.

Ive just bought a 2006 330d and want to make sure all is well especially with the dpf, glowplugs etc, plus im just interested to see if there any faults on there. Not too interested in coding at the moment.

I also have a vag com cable if thats any use?

Thanks

Get yourself a carly adapter and download carly bmw

The vag cable won't work on the bmw

Inpa can be had for cheap off ebay. Some sell software and cable for £20. Youd need to lug a laptop to use it.

Thanks, that carly app looks pretty good from what ive read, well worth £40 by the look of it.

Does it have to use a carly adapter or can you get away with a cheaper Bluetooth one?

The carly adapter works best as it is integrated with the app. So you search for the wifi device and connect straight to it.

A standard adapter like the ELM is harder to configure. Hit and miss for most to find working settings. Works good with an app called dash something can't remember the exact name.

A member on here posted an special coupon code for Carly products ordered over amazon.

I did it the exact way and it saved me a few bucks, so I pass it on to you

Heres an copy and paste:

BEFORE you place your amazon order ,
send this
5 € coupon code

4ZECQD

to trainer@mycarly.com
Explain in your email from wich amazon you'd prefer to order (US/UK/Canada/UAE)

Then wait for Carlys reply containing your "special" 5€ coupon code.

Carly has limitations, and gets expensive to unlock all the various options it offers.
I would (& did) bite the bullet & get a compatible cable & software from http://www.cable-shack.co.uk/ This allows you to do your own coding, fault code analysis etc, and is a lot more thorough than Carly.
I have both Carly & the cable shack gear BTW.

I think Carly looks to be very easy to use and convenient.... yes other softwares are probably better... depends on your setup. For me I'm going to go Carly as I'm apple and mac based and not very computer minded for in depth stuff. Just easier and cheaper for my needs

Carly is good but if you really want to get involved indiagnostics and coding get INPA, Rheingold and NCSEXPERT. There's a few threads around with step by step guides of setting up.

I bought INPA from a company called Bc cables in the end. It also came with DIS and some other bits of software. Was easy to install using their one click install wizard.

Should be just fine for what i require

ISTA D / P have replaced DIS. Available at no cost from some of our good friends on the forum. Search and hit them up for a download link.

I've had Carley for a while, as other have said it's very easy to use and does the job.

Worth noting that the App to go with the dongles quite expensive, £43.99 at the moment.

Bmcables do a easy install for INPA Dis and PCS for your car. It gets complicated from 07 and onwards sadly. I had the above and it wouldn't work with my 2010 E90 so ended up buying RHEINGOLD etc which is a co.plete dog to setup and I cannot get all the features to work (I work in IT as well)

But once it is up and running. It's good stuff

I second what bfleming is saying. I too have both Carly and the K + D can cable from cable shack. The Carly is a lot more simple when it comes to coding even though it's limited on certain aspects and you do have to pay for certain options, but the cable will program, diagnose and clear faults once installed

Not been on here for a couple of weeks but this is exactly what i bought.

I've got it all installed. I used inpa to read the codes, i just need to watch a few more videos to work out how to use dis as i want to do the dpf back pressure tests
