Exclamation Steering Noise...HELP!

So my car has been making this terrible squeaking noise for the last few months, seems to get worse in cold weather. Found this video online, mine sounds just like it...

Has anyone else had this issue and been able to fix it? Also it did this with my old struts, and I just replaced them along with the bushing not too long ago. So I am pretty sure it isn't anything with them, but I could be wrong.

Thanks!

If you search for steering wheel squeak you should be able to find a post where a guy describes lubricating a boot between the footwell and the engine compartment. They mention possibly replacing something on the column too if I recall.

This happened to me too for about two days (my first winter with the car) but went away after my search and before I tried to fix.

I have seen that before, but it seems to be for a high pitched squeak sound. I think mine is different

That is not squeaking, it is creaking.
Some suspects:
- One of the u-joints at the lower steering column shaft, upper or lower one. Either got loose, or they developed play
- Steering rack bolts got loose, there are two of them.

That is usually what I do, or take wide turns

I have hear the possibility that there is supposed to be a ball bearing system in the bushing? Don't recall that when I did my struts. Also I have 2 friends with 135i's and 2 with 335i's and non of them have this issue. Which leads me to believe it has to do with the AWD system...

Does your steering feel stiff when you turn? I recently had the lower steering assembly replaced because it was shot and made a squeaking sound on turns in addition to being stiff. Note I have 107k on my car. Not sure how much you have.

Nice job on 146k. I could tell my steering was off because the car would not follow my steering inputs smoothly or it would take more effort on a sweeping turn at speed. Don't know if that helps.

Same issue with my car about a week ago. Your steering rack bolts are loose. Have them tightened and your issue is gone!

Hmmm I am having the same issue when it's cold out. Mine sounds like it's coming from the passenger side when I opened up the hood and started turning the wheel
