if you are going to spend $500 on performance, JB3 is cheap fix for the power right away. it does great job at what it does it but down the raod you might also want to get BT scanner, O2 sim, Speed Deliminator, and chip burnner. For me, reason why i switched over to Procede rev II from JB3 was more of convenient factor than how much whp it creates that because it does everything above within, although i could probably made higher numbers on dyno...
if you are looking to spend other than tune, i'd say trade + cash for bigger wheels... but then again, as somebody mentioned, $500 isn't lot of money when it comes down to modding bmw. perhaps you can use good tint...?

if you hace jb3, you can use AA one i believe. i saw it somewhere on n54 that terry's going to source it from AA. if you have procede, well, you wouldn't even be asking because it's already included...

JB3 and BT, it just a few more dollars than $500, but you get the best tune, updated for free, and the BT tool to do everything you will ever need to do, and then you can sell the other 2 VIN spots for $100 each to recoupe your money and then some

Right now I'm staying away from the JB3 since I still have 3 years left on my warranty, I konw some people have gotten service dont without any problem, but then again some have had problems, not worth losing my warranty right now.
That being said, I think I'm goin with the AFE DCI. Its like ~$400ish on **********s, claims to get upwards of 30 hp, and can be turned back to stock in 30 mins for service.

AFE is an expensive waste of money. It does nothing more but look a little better than your dual cone intake that is a third the cost. In fact, there was some research done by members of this forum saying they actually lost power with the AFE setup.
As far as your JB3 comment - it takes 10-15 minutes to take out the JB3 before taking your car in to the dealership. BMW can void your warranty work on an intake as well... |

With your budget I'd suggest the following combos:
JB3 PNP JB3 Pinout + BT JB3 Pinout + DCI JB+ + DCI I'd want to invest in a BT too somewhere down the line no matter what tune you do. Also if you're willing to spend 400 on a AFE intake, I'd take a JB+ or JB3 instead... JB+ at 50% won't throw any codes (very mild and safe). And JB3 map3 should be very safe too (though accidents can happen; I threw a code with map3 night 1 of install). That being said, I say go for the JB3 PNP. You won't look back. All of these mods listed take the same amount of time to install/remove; except JB+(under 2 mins) if you have small hands. |

An intake is a huge waste of money on a stock car..especially a $400 AFE. FYI, a jb3 can also be returned to stock in 30 mins..A JB+ can go back to stock in 30 seconds. If your not going to tune your car, dont bother doing any other power mods because you're just throwing money away..unless you're doing it for the sound

USED - JB3+Intake+Boost Gauge
That's really all you can do with only $500 that's worth doing... Or you can get. . . Some Matte Black Grilles+Spoiler+Blacklines. |

You can get a new JB+ with BT cable for under 500 out the door. Leave it at default, it should not throw any codes, do the free DIY boost solenoid mod and you're set for a nice increase in HP/Torque. Use the BT cable to check and delete codes and when ready for service and simply remove the JB+.
If you're not interested in tuning then spend the money on cosmetic mods that you like, interior trim, vinyl the exterior trim, grills lip etc. None of those will void anything. |
