Half opening window on unlocking car.

Hi all,

Can anybody confirm why the drivers window opens half way when sometimes unlocking my E92?

It seems to happen in the garage quite a lot (where we have 2 cars parked (quite closely) next to one another). Is there a sensor which checks this and opens the window to allow for easier access?

Thanks for confirming.

It is for easier access in a tight space, think its activated by holding the unlock button or pressing the window switch, not a sensor.

press the unlock button twice and the window drops to allow easier access.

Hi there, yes, I'm aware if I press and hold the open button both windows will open.

But I swear blind that I'm not and only the drivers window automatically drops half way. This made me think there might be a sensor.

Just tried this and it opened, but the window didn't drop half way (the wife's car is not currently in the garage)

This happens to both my doors occasionally. I don't do anything differently unlocking the car.
I thought perhaps it was a calibrating mechanism or a response to the window being touched on opening the door, but it's not the latter.

It's definitely by pressing the unlock button twice to allow easy access. I know we're blokes but does nobody read the manuals anymore? You may not appreciate that you've pressed unlock twice but you have.

I had absolutly no idea this happened. I have been just squeesing into the door in carparks! Maybe the manual should come out sometimes but imagine how boring it would be to read the whole thing to make sure you know everything.

As much as I try pressing the unlock button twice I can't seem to get this to happen

But good to know and thanks for the help. I will have to keep trying with this one.

I don't have my e92 anymore but the sequence that always seemed to work was to unlock - pause - unlock. The pause would be about 1s.

Resurrection.

This happened to me yesterday. For the life of me I cannot recreate the sequence. I think I may have to read the manual. I do know that I pressed the unlock button twice or trunk release and then unlock - will have a play around with this again today.

I figured my issue out... I pressed trunk release once, unlock car once, waited a second and pressed unlock car again. As I opened the driver side door the window dropped two half way! Woohoo I recreated the sequence and glad I am not losing my mind...

Pressing unlock twice alone or with a pause between did not work for me... I have to press the trunk release and then unlock twice and it works everytime but only for driver side.

Convenience setting

If I'm not mistaken, you need to set the unlock setting to Convenience for this to work.

I just hold the unlock button, wait until windows are down enough, and then drop in

I also got confused when this happened to me, I'd walk up to my car, unlock it, and if I was ever unsure that it'd unlocked I'd press it again and the windows would drop half way, but it took me ages to work out that the double press was causing it!

Handy for getting in if the space is tight though

The 2 click method will then close the window for you automatically, once the door shuts. Handy in rain.

Don't push unlock too often in case there's a self destruct sequence!

Oh right, that would be handy then. Might give it a go but from memory it has never happened on my car.

try multiple clicks on the unlock button.

2, 3 or 4 clicks. In case the sensor fails to pick up one of the clicks...
