Video: Engine plastic"ty rattle, 09 E90, Work whip need help.

7/12/18 "SOLVED: Was the Alternator making the noise, car is fixed now. "

------------------------------------------------

I cant figure out where this noise is coming from, check out the video and see if maybe you had the same issue or recognize what it is.

I need to get it fixed asap. I appreciate any help, Thank you.
I'm interested in DIY, strapped for cash at the moment. Where should I start?

Is this A/C related?
Seems to be coming from under the engine cover.
SES light is On.
Auto zone ob2 didnt pull any codes.

If you have DISA valve (not sure) - check if its not broken.
Best way to know is to use Carly or INPA and pull engine code.

I don't think I have the 3 stage manifold, but I do see two boxs on the manifold that could be DISA.

I had a similar problem with My AC Pulley.

The bearing was shot.

What lead me to that was i took the drive belt off so I could see if the noise was driven by the belt.

Then I got a shorter belt to bypass the ac compressor to see if it was the alternator or not.

I got the pulley off ebay and I got a denso removal tool. Total repair was 100 but took me a week of messing with it.

I checked the oil filter, as I’ve seen in other post/videos. A similar sound, but it’s all good, filter it almost OEM. Lol thank for the post though!!!

Thank you so much! I’ve seemed to narrow it down to the AC pulley, I’m pretty sure because I’ve used my AC more this summer then I’ve used in the past 5 years of owning the car. Global warming is real in the desert....

Anyway I don’t have the time to diy due too (abnormal) extensive work hours this month. So I bit my tongue and got a rental car, my precious bmw sits at at bmw indie shop at the moment.

I’ll update with the final diagnosis so maybe someone else will find this post extremely useful (life saving) in the future.

Thanks again BOSS!

Was the Alternator making the noise, replaced as well as the belt, car is fixed now.
I forgot how low my car is and how heavy the steering is!
