Bov help!!

Friend of mine that owns a Evo has a spare Greddy RS Bov. He wants to give it to me but he also told me the reasons why he took it off.
He said it was making his idle drop, and said it might do the same to mine.
Should I take the Bov install it and see what happens?
If anybody has a Bov on their car do you have any comments? I saw a Greddy Type RS Bov on youtube but I wasnt sure if the user had any issues with it. Anybody has a Bov on their car yet? Any issues or just comments on wether I should put it on or not? I know most people hate it but what I'm really working is will this effect my performance or make my idle go weird?
Thanks

You had a Greddy Rs on your 335i? Does that mean you dont have it anymore? Also, did it ever give you any issues?

Dont have it anymore, planning on getting the AA bov. Didn't give me any issues at all. Just gotta tune it right so the boost don't leak.

Your EVO friend's problems are because he either has an MR with a stock IC pipe or he did not recirculate.
It should work fine on your car.

An evo is MAF based, while the 335 is MAP based so you can use a VTA BOV on a 335, unlike the evo that will run like crap if air isn't blown back into the intake tract.

Yup +1

Also, Greddy is notorious for boost leaks...

if you want one that sounds like Greddy...get a Tial...

And how do you plan on putting this on your car? do you have an adapter and the piping necessary? it's not something you stick on, PM me if you need help with it...

but i strongly urge you to find another BOV...

Greddy is notorious for Boost leaks? Wtf I always thought they were a good company for Bov's. Well I'm getting the Bov today and I have no plans on putting it on myself. Just incase Boost does leak out, will I be able to revert it back into stock form with the stock bypass or bov?? I also have procede in my car, and am running more psi then stock, will I have a even greater chance of Boost leaking out? Only reason why I'm going with the Greddy is because I'm getting it for free. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you are running the Procede, and you have a boost leak....ur car is not gonna be able to achieve the targeted boost, and will put your engine in a limp mode...

Ur car will feel like a civic afterwards...with more pressure, the chances of boost leak will be higher...so yes

Greddy Type R BOVs are nice...but thats about it from them. The Type S and RS both are meh.

The Type R has such a hard spring it wont open under 15psi. you can swap springs in them, but even with the softest spring it wouldnt open when cruising..I guess the Type R is only made for track use.

The RS is ok...they do leak. My friend ison his second one.

I've ahd the Ultimate Racing TiAL BOV on my car for ~4K miles, with PROcede, and have never had an issue. It really sounds nice with the extra boost, very similar to the AA in accoustics, and for much less.

Why not just sell it on a EVO forum and use the money to get a Tial or AA.

Yeah, I would just sell the BOV and put that money towards a kit from UR or AA and call it a day. You can fab up a custom one to work with your Greddy BOV for less money, but i'm not sure if its worth the aggravation and the fact that those BOV's have a tendency to leak.

That one everyone saw on Youtube is in my car right now, and has been for a month or so.

It works fine, doesnt idle funny (logically it wouldnt do so anyway), and is being run with a PROcede. As far as boost leak...there really isnt any sure way to verify its OK, or not OK, unless you have an accurate boost gage. I do not, so thats an issue. Short of buying one, does anyone have a way to verify boost leak?

I keep hearing that people know someone who knows someone who might have known someone who had a bad experience with this BOV leaking. Did this person confirm this with a pressure reading?

m3to335, how much did it cost you to install it? Was there any welding or anything that can't be reversed involved?

Install only took a few minutes and I did it myeslf. The original owner had a shop weld up a T pipie then he bought rubber hoses and clamps to clamp it to the T pipe. Pretty straight forward. If it were me, id want the BOV much higher up since it rubs where the old diverter hose came out of it.
