Relocation Inlets - Which Ones?

Decided this is something I want, now just have to pick one. It looks like VRSF, MMP, ARM, PR and Turner are among the usual suspects who have them. Will likely not go with Turner due to price, despite how nice it looks. Not too stressed about the expansion tank and power steering reservoir relocation brackets, I'll make my own for the power steering and will do something custom for the expansion tank - I don't like how the stock tank fits, and I don't want to buy a new charge pipe to make the 335D tank work.

So, the real question is, who makes the higher quality/better fitting kit as far as the piping goes? Leaning towards ARM at the moment.

I went with MMP and was very happy with the price/fit/finish/etc. I installed their outlets as well, all while replacing the turbos, so it made sense.

Do assume you will break the vacuum canister nipples while moving them, and go ahead and have new ones ready (or jury rig new nipples if you're so inclined...).

I just ordered the MMP aluminum and I have the VRSF outlets. I'm getting the inlets on Friday so I'll report back over the weekend when I install it. I had the VRSF oem side inlets, but just wanted to try something different.

My coolant reservoir was leaking at the bottom. I would occasionally smell coolant, but I could never find the leak until I started taking everything apart. So I ended up ordering the 335D tank and I also got the BMS charge pipe with the Tial BOV. I also ordered the coolant reservoir extended harness from Precision Raceworks because I didn't want to cut into the oem harness to extend the wire.

MMP seems like a popular choice, my hesitation is what seem like really low quality filters, so it would be good to hear your impressions once you receive them. Looking at older photos, it appears that they made a change at some point, with the older style looking better.

Pardon my ignorance but what is the benefit of relocated inlets? I've always wondered.

I'v been looking at inlets too. Tough decisions. MMP stock locations look like a good product. I'm tempted to go relocated only so i don't have to deal with fitting the new rear inlet. But seems like re-locating the other parts equals out the install difficulty. Doesn't seem to be any difference in stock or relocated inlets and if there is it's very small. Precision race works has a nice look kit also.

They made filter changes for sure, but they don't have the filters in stock so I asked them to ship the inlets without filters and I located some K&N's I'm going to order.

Supposedly the turbos works less harder with relocated inlets, but who knows man. Once I get them installed this weekend I'll compare logs and see if I can tell a difference because my turbos are nearly maxed out at 90% WGDC

The claim is that the benefit comes from the shorter runner length down to the turbos.

Did they offer a discount for not including the filters? This may sway me a bit more in their direction.

What made you choose the aluminum vs the silicone? And where does the flapper valve plumb to with the aluminum version?

The one thing I really like about the aluminum ones is you can change the elbow that connects to the turbo. I'd prefer to get the 1.75" for a good fit on stock turbos but ya never down the line what will happen so being able to swap it out for a 2" is nice. For me I'm still torn though. Move stuff around and move even further from stock or maintain some kind of stock appearance to the engine bay.

Not sure about other companies or what's needed but the Precision kit comes with a harness extension for the expansion tank

Yes, luckily they offer it on its own so easy enough to order just that if one was to choose a different kit.

I've seen post of the silicone melting and I'm sure it's due to installer error for the most part. I probably won't even wrap any of it I'm already running meth so that helps keep my temps down. As mentioned above it's easier swapping the coupler from a 1.75" to a 2" when running the aluminum pipes if you ever do upgrade your turbos with a 2" snout.

Fair enough on the possibility of melting part, still not clear where the flapper valve routes to as there is no provision for it on the aluminum versions - at least from what I can tell from photos. The silicone inlets have an extra bung for it.

I ordered the MMP relocated inlets and he sent me stock location and my car was going to the shop before he could ship out the correct ones. However he was nice enough to give me a discount for the mix up. The quality on the stock location inlets is good i dont see why the relocated wouldnt be

I thought about the same too, but I'm receiving my package tomorrow so I will keep you in the loop. It should have it like every inlet... hopefully lol.

I purchased the turner kit and I am in love with every aspect of this kit except 4 parts. 1). Price 2). Inlet to turbo 3). Availability 4). Steering reservoir mounting. This it's one of the most expensive kits I found but it takes care of everything with a great fit and a OEM finish due to the detail. The 1.75 inlets fit fine on the front turbo however the rear I used a clap on the turbo and a second clamp on the back of the pipe, making the clap kit other hardware prior to coming of turbo. In all fairness, most articles say is is just going to happing on stock turbos without extended lips. This kit always is not available, however I found it is because of one relocation pipe. I had the kit parted out and I bought everything without the pipe and used basic heater hose until the real pipe showed up, which is the same thing plus a 70-90 degree bend on one side. I have and upgraded charge pipe and my steering pump res is being pushed down about 15 degrees. But I plan to relocate it father up the bay. Details like how the vacuum canister are relocated to under the pletum and most hardware is basic bmw hardware makes it very ease to replacement and the ducting it great, and seamed to be plug and play with marsimaro who sells cf ducts and with further dress up. If your don't care about aesthetics and detail, not for you. Other than that I love it (converting to aluminum coolant tank makes me feel way more reliable, I've gone through a few expansion takes because the aged.

I got the relocated MMP inlets in and they look great, but someone did mention about the PCV and the inlets doesn't have an area to install it. I'm not exactly sure what were suppose to do though.
