2008 335i Sedan Stock Dyno vs. SSTT/K&N (Results Posted Pg. 2)

As the subject states. Stock 2008 335i sedan. The car has the steptronic transmission and has NO mods whatsoever. 1,100 miles on the odometer and a fresh oil change at 1,000 miles. I performed a VERY easy break-in, probably too easy with too much highway cruising... Gas was Chevron 93 octane.

This is my baseline and I plan to re-dyno and post results next week with the SSTT and K&N drop-in installed.

Do these results seem right? The temperature was 54 degrees and the correction factor was 0.93 due to the low temp and humidity.

STD Correction
265.1 rwhp
277.1 rwtq

Actual - No Correction
274.3 rwhp
286.7 rwtq

SAE Correction
256.3 rwhp
267.9 rwtq

Do we assume an 18% driveline loss with the steptronic?

Thanks!
Peter

Thanks guys! I'm hoping for 300 rwhp STD with the SSTT and K&N drop-in.

SSTT and K&N done...it took about 97 seconds to do both! Updated dyno sheets with the two mods will come next week after the car has some time to learn the SSTT.

Your numbers look pretty much in the range they should be.
Maybe a few ponies low, but that could be dyno dependant too.

When I dynoed my 07 Steptronic sedan (I now have a coupe) on 91 Octane with 1220 miles on the odometer I got the following:
266.4 rwhp
278.1 rwtq

Temp was 70 degrees, humidity was 38% and it was STD with no correction factor needed.

So on 93 Octane (even on a stock car it helps and makes more power) I might of seen a few more ponies and torque, but again, dynos vary a bit.

So, I'd say you are pretty much close to where you should be.

I'd think with the SSTT and K&N drop in, especially on 93 Octane, you'll see more than 300 rwhp.
I bet it's closer to 305-310 if you let it adapt for a few hundred miles.

Enjoy

**Edit, just saw you have uncorrected numbers of
274 rwhp
286 rwtq

On 93 Octane and in that cold air, that's dead on perfect.
As I'd expect about 8 more rwhp and rwtq more for the 93 Octane and colder air.

Your car is running perfect...just as it should be.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments, I have a dyno appointment on Monday February 18th at 9:00 am central time. I will post results that night with dyno graphs. I picked a day where the temperature and humidity will be VERY close to the temp and humidity from when I dyno'ed stock. I'm hoping for 300 rwhp (or just north of that). I will definately post STD, Actual and SAE graphs along with Stock vs. SSTT/K&N.

Heat - I LOVE IT! Granted I have a 1,006 rwhp Supra in the garage, but 300+ rwhp ponies in a daily is NOTHING to sneeze at... Nothing like disabling the DTC/DSC and leaving the line sideways through 1st gear!

Driver - thanks for the info. I think I'm dead on with the numbers. I will even fill up with the same Chevron 93 gas prior to dyno'ing on Monday. I should have about 200 miles on the SSTT prior to dyno'ing, that enough??????

Thanks guys!
Peter

yup, 200 miles is plenty for full adaptation with a piggyback.
BTW, if I were you, I'd dyno with the stock air filter for the first two runs.
This will give you an idea of what the SSTT will do.
Then do a 3rd run with the K&N drop in, and see if it made a difference for you.

Actually, ask them if you can sneak in a 4th run at no additional cost.
If so, then do 3 full runs with the SSTT and stock air filter.
Giving a couple minutes cool down between runs.
Then swap out the stock air filter for the K&N on the fourth run if they'll let you.
Try to give 4-5+ minutes cool down between the 3rd run and the 4th with the K&N though. As the 4th run will be at the biggest disadvantage as it is because even with a few minutes cool down between runs, you're engine will still be the hottest for that 4th run.

I saw about 4 rwhp gain with the K&N by adding in the K&N on the 3rd run.
Others have seen basically no change or a couple hp drop from a drop in. But it's hard to quantify since you can have 3-5 rwhp difference between runs even when no changes are made.
But don't JUST look at the peak hp gains.
You could have 1-2 LESS peak hp with the drop in, but have 6-8 rwhp more in the last 1000 rpms before redline. I'd take a 1-2 hp drop at peak to have even 3-4 hp gain up close to redline.

Good luck and have fun.

as mentioned make sure you cool the car down between runs, the 335 intercooler heatsoaks very quickly

HoustonT, congrats on your new 335 sedan. I hope you get strong results with the sstt and drop in - I'll be very interested to see how it turns out.

Btw, I'm in Houston as well and was wondering where you go to get dyno'ed at? Do you get a decent deal per hour?

Looks great.. I am happy to see you started at a such a low rpm. For some reason people doubted the two little turbos can make max tq <2000 rpm

Driver - I will be going to dyno at lunch time during the work week, so I don't think I'll be swapping filters or anything of that sort. I think the K&N is good for 1-3 rwhp or so.

Car - thanks man, I'm going to dyno at Carboy, they are near my office...

LODOSS - yea, I wanted to make sure to basically dyno OFF idle...

How much do they charge? Are you going to the track to get a quarter-mile time on it anytime soon?

RM - I think it's $65/hour without a/f and $75/hour with a/f but don't quote me on that. As for 1/4 mile.....I'm actually the organizer of TX2K8 - Supra Nationals and the event is coming up March 20-23, 2008 with the drag day being Sunday, so I will wait until then to run it.

Have you had your car on the dyno or track?

Peter, are you guys renting out a track for that sunday or what? Also, is it just supras or can a couple 335i's tag along?

Not yet, but I may join you this morning. Hopefully they can take me in shortly after you.

I will be going to the track either in Baytown or in Rust ASAP.
