e92 fuel breather pipe replacement (simple method)
Hello everyone, I want to share with you a simple method of replacing the fuel breather pipe.
My English is not very good, I am sorry for the mistakes. 1. You will need to lift the car and remove the right rear wheel and plastic wheel arch. Remove fuel breather pipe from fuel tank cap side. 2. Create a simple device as in the photo below (a steel rod with a hook at the end) 3. Insert the device into the fuel breather pipe hole and press the hook on the white plastic latch. At the same time, gently rotate the pipe and pull it towards you, with several attempts you will definitely remove it. 4. lubricate the rubber seal in the new pipe. Insert the pipe into the hole in the car body and put it on the blue fitting on the fuel tank. Gentle rotate the pipe and press slightly towards the fuel tank until it clicks. 5. Assemble in reverse order. The old pipe photo: I hope this instruction will help someone and save time. And you don't have to disassemble half of the car to replace the small pipe |

Wow... this could save many people many hours. I bet most E9x have this problem if the pipe hasn't been replaced or reinforced in the past.

Will this issue also cause a hard start? I have been smelling fuel but cannot find a leak on my '06 E90 wagon. This makes a lot of sense but since starting to smell the gas I have been also having a hard start like the fuel pressure is bleeding off.
Maybe a different issue?? Thanks and good job making the tool. I will probably try this to see if this is a problem anyway. Edit: Found a cracked left side fuel pump, so the vent hose was not my issue. Also found out that my E90 vent hose goes directly to the right side fuel pump and not the side of the tank. Appears to be a much smaller vent hose also. Last edited by JohnWizz; 05-28-2023 at 03:10 PM.. Reason: New information. |

The vent hose wouldn't cause any other issue than a fuel leak when the tank is near full. It's simply there to allow pressure within the tank to equalise, which will still happen if the hose is damaged.
