Testing DMTL Solenoid Switching Valve

My '07 335xi is throwing a 2a12 fault code (DME: DMTL solenoid valve, activation). Apparently there is a pretty common problem with the wiring chafing against the rear driver wheel well. I checked on this and there was indeed some very minor damage to the green wire. It's a pretty straightforward fix, but before I attempt it, I wanted to know how I can test this to confirm that is indeed a wiring issue. I want to be able to test before and after I splice the wire.

I have a multimeter but am very limited in my electrical know-how, so looking for detailed instructions. There is some more detail in this post.
