Not before my JB4 flashes my hazards. And usually I'll wait a few minutes after that.

You are using 0W-40 in an N54?

I floor it after reaching 75C or when situation requires it.

Done 174k miles on engine and after taking it apart my cylinders are in like from factory state. Piston rings were slightly worn with gap between 0.3 to 0.6 when new rings are all at 0.3.

Head vale guides were slowly leaking oil into intake, hence I went with full rebuild, but my oil consumption was still below 1l per 10000 miles. Modified turbos have done 40k miles and are in perfect condition too.

I always use Castrol oils and change them every 8k to 10k miles. Mostly longer jurneys and few races inbetween.

Is there a thermostat in the oil cooler? What temp does it open?

I'm still trying to get a straight answer from the BMW techs at the dealership.

Nice! Castrol seem to be the only oil I can get cheaply and easily that is Longlife 01 so that's good to hear.

How long did your original turbos held for?

So let me get this straight, you dont have to add any oil from one oil change to the next? So how long does it take you to rack up 8 to 10K miles?

And the specific oil is what?
Have you ever had an analysis done on any of these after 7K miles?

Mine lasted 134k miles and it was wastegate actuator which failed, not the turbos themself. I was pushing 17psi through them for 30k miles and rest was stock pressure.

When it was a daily driver I was doing it everu 3 to 4 months. Nowdays it's every 6 to 8 months.

Good pics.
5W-35 or 5W-40 LongLife
Please note, my car runs cool thanks to 40% more efficient sport radiator and 4x bigger oil radiator. I very rarely hit 125C oil temp and it mostly stays around 90C to 115C.

If you’re not first you’re last!!!

This is why oils have 2 weights...

Flooring it? I wait for the oil to fully warm up. So when the oil temps reach 240f I feel comfortable flooring it.

I drive in D until the oil warms to 160, then put it in DS (Sport mode) as that keeps it in a lower gear with higher rpms, and once it reaches around 240 I'll floor it, often
