UK Gearbox remap review
Well I installed the gearbox remap in the middle of last week but only had a few 5 mile trips to and from work until today. I have now put about 100 miles on the car since the remap was loaded. First of all about the flash loader, well it takes about 1 minute to load and then 10 mins of leaving the car at idle before driving it.
The first thing I noticed was the torque convertor locking up far sooner than before. This takes a bit of getting used to, especially if you already have a sprint booster installed like I have. On a side note, get a sprint booster, it really does transform this car and make it feel far more aggressive to drive and gets the torque convertor locking up quicker when pulling away. so back to the gearbox remap (with sprint booster still installed and on max) the differences you feel are:- 1) Torque converter locking up really quickly 2) Kick down gear change is much faster 3) the actual gear change is firmer and quicker and the pitch of the engine changes very quickly and the rev counter has to plat "catch up" 4) The delay from paddle operation to gear change is shorter so to be entirely honest....... the most noticeable differences and these are undeniably better by far are 1 & 2. The actual gear change "3" is clearly faster too and lastly the delay from paddle shift actuation to gear change, It is quicker but not amazingly quicker, just noticeable. TBH "4" is unimportant in the grand scale of things as the first 3 are so influential in the way the car drives and responds that it actually pales into insignificance. Pulling away from a standstill is so different to before. The weight of the car is immediately felt to shift to the rear wheels and it digs in like side stepping a manual gearbox clutch, it just digs in and throws you back in the seat like there's no tomorrow. It even makes the quaife LSD work so much better and faster to react. doing 30 in 3rd and flooring it, not only is the kickdown to 2nd close to instant, it actually snaps you back into the seat with no sponginess the autobox normally gives, It feels like a manual gearbox, The transmission to the wheels, just feels totally connected. All sloppiness and sponginess is removed. at all speeds you can feel the torque convertor transmitting the power to the wheels and 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear are far form the feel of stock. Coming out of corners is like driving a manual, you want power, you get it, no delay and no slow pick up of power, it all there when you want it. I am really pleased with this gearbox remap and will not go back to stock....ever......11mins of my life and £420 and a different car to drive by far. Oh yes, please, all of you, get a sprint booster too on the 335d, you wont regret it and the gearbox remap is probably made even better by it too. I wouldn't give either of them up and I have done just over 100 miles with it, so it may even improve still further as put even more miles on it

I wonder if there's a way this map could be extracted from your EGS?!

I have ordered mine and are waiting for it to arrive here in DK.
Where have you bought the sprint booster?

Do it, it was quite expensive but I love the way the car drives now.
The way it sits down, digs in and rips through 1st gear is awesome. I actually get less wheel spin maybe it's because the TC is locked up in sync with the engine straightaway so the power builds through a direct link form the engine to the wheels. In OEM format It seems to work like an elastic band and hold it back and then let it all go mid revs, this is what wrecks any launch I have tried to do in the past. 2nd gear just digs in with all the power too and again the backend drops as it bites into the road. My Quaife LSD seems to work better too, maybe its because everything is happening faster and at the same time now and not being held back. Coming out of corners, I have needed to relearn to feed the power in again as there is no waiting for the power to get to the wheels, its just "there" all the time. Kick down seemed to take the longest to adapt but its so fast now. then there's the actual gear change, there's almost this slight lurch of power, as it changes up under full throttle and the engine pitch changes so quickly the Tacho has to play catch up, meeting the revs that are already on the way up again In case you haven't guessed, I am very pleased with this and can't imaging going back to how it was before

I'm looking forward to reading more reviews from this upgrade. The price is quite steep, but then again so is my angst against the D-mode of my E91 330dA
Please keep us posted about your experiences! |

Heya, does this also smoothen the gear changes?
My gear changes are getting worse and worse, when going from 2nd to 3rd the car literally jumps forward, it's extremely uncomfortable... |
