Huge Wheel Gap?

Family was using my 328xi and had to replace the wheels (due to a pothole).

I came back and the wheel/car setup looked odd... Not sure why I'm noticing it so much...

The wheel looks receded into the body of the car... I measured it and the rear was 2" while the fronts were 1.75" of gap. The wheel measurements are 17x7.5 42ET.

Is this normal for "stock"-ish cars or did my family accidentally buy the wrong kind of wheels? I know the stock wheels were receded and not completely flush with the body of the car but 2" seems a bit extreme.

Stock ET(offset) for 17x7.5 wide I believe is 37, so these wheels will be sucked in by 5mm or .2 inches.

If the current wheel measurements are the same as the stock ET then this 1.75-2" gap is normal????

I think these are the stock 328xi 2011 wheels:

https://www.autorimshop.com/bmw-328x...oaAiMfEALw_wcB

Base on that info, the stock wheels were 17x8.5 with ET37, which means all in all, these new wheels are recessed into the car more than stock.

Right?

It depends on which wheels your car came with. They don't all have the same specs, so you need to know which ones came on the car to be able to compare.
