Exclamation SoCal Auto-X @ El Toro Marine Base | BMW | Porsche | Ferrari | Oh my! [UPDATED 6/3]

Went to my first Auto-X yesterday and had way more fun than I expected. Less intimidating than the track, which gave me more confidence to really push the car to it's limits and enjoy the locking differential around the big sweepers.

Here's a few pics I snapped between sessions.

Like the title says, the event is held monthly by the Porsche Club of America at the decommissioned, El Toro Marine Base in Irvine, CA. How many times do you get a chance to let loose on a closed airport runway?

I didn't take any video, but here's one from the 2nd fastest car of the day. This guy was legit and could seriously drive his 2004 Corvette Z06.
PS - I don't know what's up with the end of the video, but just ignore the last minute.

6/3/14 UPDATE:
Here's a few pictures from the PCA event photographer. I just grabbed a few from his Flickr album to post here and show the diversity of the cars that attended and how well run everything was.

Registration and free donuts!

Everybody gathered for the Safety Briefing and for newbs like me to meet their instructor for the day. PCA requires everybody to drive and ride with an instructor for their first 4 events. I actually really enjoyed it because I got more seat time and learned a lot just getting to ride with my instructor.

Walking the course with Steve, the guy in the video

Staging area getting ready for the first run of the day. My car was still nice and clean.

They provided a free lunch and bottled water throughout the day, which I really appreciated because it was so stinking hot out there with no shade anywhere.

Did I mention there was no shade?

Timing table...

This one's for Tee

Fastest car of the day below. Some serious grip here

Too much cowbell...

My instructor's Z06...

Very nice. I know the guy in the video, and the couple who own the blue E36 in the 2nd and 3rd pictures. I've yet to try and run with PCA, one of these days I'd like to run with them. It seems like their courses are faster.

Who said I didn't drift any? I hung the tail out a few times, but definitely not the fastest way around the track.

You should. They ran a great event and it was a fast course, not that I have any basis for comparison, but I doubt many autox have the space that a runway provides. The main straight I hit 90 mph.

Steve was a super nice guy and reminded me of DAX Shepard

Is there a sign up list and a website? I might have to attend this next month. I just had a guy in my office a few hours ago that was telling me about his Porsche club gathering yesterday. This must of been part of it.

I've seen several of Steve's videos and that's where I find that PCA courses are faster than SCCA. I've run with SCCA and BMWCCA autox events before, just never with PCA.
