3 choices of 335d at 3 price points-which would you go for?

Evening all, new to the forum and hoping to pick up my first BMW soon.

I'm currently looking at picking up an E92 335d M-sport auto. Completely new to BMWs, and with some initial research I've found 3 up for sale that I'm interested in going to view. All coming in at different price points/age/mileage so I'm not really sure which one represents the best value.

Option 1: 09 plate, 70k, well specced (highline), full BMW service history, 2 owners, looks almost perfect condition, sold by a dealer - £9995.

Option 2: 57 plate, 93k, well specced, full service history, looks in good condition with a few subtle mods and common issues fixed, private seller - £8995.

Option 3: 57 plate, 111k, well specced (highline), full service history, looks in very good condition considering the mileage, common issues and some high mileage wear and tear parts been sorted recently, private seller - £7250.

I know common sense might say to go for the best my budget can afford, but I'm not entirely sure which options presents the best value. Top and bottom option seem about right by my online valuations, middle option seems overpriced unless they're willing to drop the price.

Any opinions or things I need to consider would be highly appreciated. Stuck in a bit of analysis paralysis.

Yup, top or bottom look to be the best options. Of the two, I'd probably look at the 09 car. However, E92's didn't receive the LCI treatment until 2010, so cosmetically I'd expect there to be nothing between them.

I bought a 125k mile 335d which had received loads of preventive maintenance and has a massive spec. It was 50% cheaper than a lesse spec'd equivalent with 70k miles, so thought it was worth a punt.

The preventive maintenance is a great selling point. Anything done above and beyond regular servicing and maintenance counts in my view.

Have you compared a 330d lci to a 335d pre-lci well worth a look at the 0-60 figures and fuel etc you might be surprised especially with a good remap. Love the 335's and the split exhaust looks great but a lot more money and higher insurance and possibly higher maintenance with 2 turbos.

+1 on the 1st and 3rd options.

Top 1 for sure if its in good nic....

Might not be LCI, but you can still get 09's with the updated stuff on them, my N54 335i isn't a LCI as its 09 but it does have the much better CIC Pro I drive.

This is a valid point, only 0.1 seconds between them on 0-62 but 330d has much improved mpg, 2 insurance groups lower plus a lower road tax group!
Not sure what your budget is or if it must be an auto but if you're willing to have a proper gearbox I have a very late June 2013 e92 330d lci m sport for sale at £12,495. Still under bmw warranty and very high spec (16 speaker individual audio, electric sunroof, folding mirrors, pro nav, dab, phone prep and Bluetooth, heated leather seats, rear spoiler etc, etc)

I own a pre Lci 330d m sport and an lci 330d m sport, there's very little hp/torque between them yet a very large 0.8 seconds difference in 0-62 time. Not surprised by your comparison but I think an lci 330d might be a different story, is near identical performance to 335d without remap and given the gains I've seen people on here get from a mapped 330d lci it'd still hold its own mapped vs mapped.

I have looked at the 330D, but I've already made the decision to switch from looking at the 335i to the 335d due to reliability/running cost concerns so not really sure I want to compromise even more. I will check again however - if I can get a lot more for my money it might not be a bad choice.

If you're buying for reliability reasons surely the 330d lci is a no brainier? Newer engine design, less turbos to go wrong, easier to service etc. BMW just did around £4000 worth of engine clean out and replacement parts on mine as well (new inlet manifold, new EGR valve, new EGR cooler, walnut blast decoke) so in my case any of the usual carbon buildup issues are non existent. If they haven't already been done all 3 of those example cars are likely approaching or already suffering from carbon buildup issues (and even if they have been looked at was likely just a quick clean, I doubt they had all these new parts). Can't get more reliable than replacing all problematic parts with brand new ones! My car was very late in final production month as well so you'll not find a newer one, especially not with this spec. For not a lot more than the 09 plate car it's a higher spec car 4 years newer with basically identical performance and cost savings from better mpg, insurance group, road tax etc. Under transferable bmw warranty until 27th June as well for added peace of mind.

Standard vs standard, 335d is only 0.1s quicker to 60mph than a 330d LCI.

Yes the 335d will have better throttle response but not much in it really.

Shame BMW did not use the newer N57 for the 335d LCI than the ancient M57.

yeh but thats not real world,,once rolling is where the extra torque comes in,,but dont matter 330d and 335d are alongside and both floor it,,you woould only see the 335d creeping away,,but once both mapped then the gap widens a little more..some have went with a manual gearbox conversion into 335d,,would love that but what clutch?

I would not worry about performance as both cars are fast enough for most people

look at the spec

the newer IDrive system on the LCI models is worth having over the older system

the 335 is better spec'ed as standard than the 330

M Sport is worth the extra

You are getting very close to F30 money for a 330d. Why not something like this:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...20Sport&page=1

Don't like the interior colour, but there must be some approaching your budget around?

Surely for a little over the £10k mark there will be LCI N55 335i models out there? Then you’d have similar reliability and running costs to pre-LCI 335d but with better looks, features, performance and exhaust note.

If you are new to BMWs i would buy the car from the dealer (i assume bmw dealer ?) & negotiate 2 years AUC warranty. 1 year is standard.

I'm on my 4th BMW and one thing for sure is, they DO go wrong from time to time and certainly not cheap to repair!

Good luck

The only reason I went for a 330d over the 335d is the gearbox. Hate autos.
I’d probably go for option 1, especially if it’s got cic.
