Got my wife’s n43 booked in for the blower harness issue at the end of the month, what’s this about the timing chain? If it’s noisy they replace? Or just if it throws up codes?

Well I quizzed them on this they will only change if it shows any signs it's not right. If I drive away and later it explodes they will state it was ok at time they inspected. They will NOT change just as a precaution or future proof they told me. It's a day job and expensive.

Interesting ......I wonder what would be the benefit of them fixing an unrelated issue with the chain as part of that recall.......

Me too the service manager just said that to me as I thought all the recalls done in 1 day and he told me to check and maybe maybe change timing chain they need 3 days. So they messed me about so had to rebook.

They rung me up and said it needed to be booked in for one day, maybe not all the dealers have the instruction to check the chain, or maybe they only rebook if the chain needs to be replaced.
Wonder who else has also been told about the check. (I know I wasn’t) |

Possibly but as BMW pay the dealership directly (they just presume invoice the account to get money for the job) I was told they need for 3 days. It also includes updating some software I was told which on my car they said can be 5hrs or so.

Just got back from Oxford BMW for the recall on mine (2009 318i msport N43).
Was booked in for the battery and heater motor cable but when I got there they also had it booked in for the brake booster vacuum sensor recall and check the chain which if found to have issues they'd cover the complete cost of replacement. The chain on mine was fine (50\50 if that's a good thing) and they did a complete health check report for the car. Cant complain about the service and I 'made the most' of the coffee & biscuits while there. |

I had my E92 325d LCI in for the heater and battery recalls a couple of weeks ago. Had an overnight slot with Sytner Nottingham, and I'd got a courtesy car booked, which is why I had to wait over 2 months from making the booking. Then I turned up to be told that it wasn't possible to have a courtesy car overnight!!
Thankfully they managed to get both recalls done in little over an hour. |
