Service light won't reset, blank mileage/time
I've searched around, but I can't figure out why this service reminder keeps popping up. I've tried resetting every available service under the reset menu (holding the trip reset button) and it's still there.
What I noticed though is that the mileage and time on each of the settings are all just dashes. Also, it shows KM... strange since I have it set to show miles. I'll attach a picture of what I mean. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Is that service notification supposed to appear on startup?

So does anybody know why the date and mileage are blank? And why it's showing KM when I have it all set to miles?

What's the mileage on the car? I know that after 188K miles the oil reminder can't be reset (there's a forum member on here who discovered that).
Do you have access to INPA? That might shed some light on this... |

https://www.bmwusa.com/owners-manuals.html Have you tried to connect to the Instrument Cluster (KOMBI Module) using INPA? In the Script Selection Box, select Body/Karosserie in Left Listbox, press Tab to Navigate to Right-hand Listbox, scroll down to "Instrument Cluster" and press Enter. You should NOW see the Main Menu (Hauptmenu) for KOMBI Module. Press F5 Status, and then select F5 Read CBS Data (CBS Daten Lesen). Note you can also read CC-ID Codes by selecting F4 Read Check Control Status (Status Checkcontrol lesen). When you have ANY warning icon on your Instrument Cluster, you can use "Check Control" (see Owner's Manual for procedure) to read "CC-ID" code. There are several CC-ID code "Keys" including Bentley Manual beginning at page 020-55, p.126 of pdf. Free download of Bentley Manual in searchable pdf format is available online in the link provided in the attached pdf, "E9x References". When you see a "!" in Yellow triangle next to Gear Selected, that means you have a CC-ID code saved in KOMBI Module which you can view using "Check Control" procedure, using B/C buttons on turn signal stalk. "Service" warning does NOT mean you have a Fault Code saved in any module. It is a warning that CBS/ "Condition Based Service" (ROUTINE SERVICE) is due. That may be oil change, brake fluid change, safety inspection, etc., and you can access ALL of that using the B/C buttons if you do it according to the Owner's Manual Procedure, and your KOMBI Module is working properly. You do NOT need to use INPA to reset anything unless something is wrong with B/C Button INPUT to KOMBI. If you still have an issue/question after trying things suggested here, let us know and we can re-examine the issue, if you give detailed steps explaining WHAT did NOT work as stated in the Owner's Manual, or if you have INPA questions. Using INPA, you will probably have to use Google Translate to enter the German terminology and get English Translation, OR you can post a screenprint (saved as jpg file) of your INPA screen here, and someone can help. I don't have any warnings on the check control, only that service notification when I first start the car. The warning triangle disappears within a few seconds.
I tried to connect to KOMBI on INPA, and I get this error. I reset everything correctly according to the manual, so I don't know what else there is to do. I'm just confused as to why the time and mileage are blank, and in KM. Something's not right. Could my CAS module showing a different VIN be a problem? I replaced that and the DME, but I can't reprogram the correct VIN to the CAS module. Everything else has my correct VIN on it.

Having a mismatched VIN could be part of the issue, yes. |

Any idea how to correct the VIN? The last tine I tried while updating with WinKFP, it bricked the CAS. Fortunately I was able to update it with the old VIN and save it.

Unfortunately I never got around to figuring this out. I sold the car a couple months ago.
