I have this same exact issue. Considering different solutions as well, because I really would rather not spend $90 to replace a part that is suspect to breaking again.

I saw a video regarding replacing air and cabin filter, hadn't been under the hood in a few years only have 3000mi in 2 yrs after the recall on air bags. I found this piece broken and laying on the engine along with the long rubber grommet that should be above this piece. Unrelated? but worked on the glove box latch. After messing with it and ordering a new motor for the box, loosened the middle screw half turn and took the bind out of the latch. Coincident, the passenger air bag is behind the glove box. Not happy with BMW dealer service ppl.

I haven't read the complete string, but you can velcro the thing to the plastic engine cover. Or, a black silicone rubber makes a great high temp adhesive, and you can pull or cut it off quickly.

The clips were broken on my 2010 E91 when I bought it a couple of years ago. I put stainless screws through from the top of the cowling and through the part of the cable holder that slides in (and used to clip in) and covered them with black plastic screw covers from Lowe's. Nice and sturdy, won't break, and just remove the two screws when I'm pulling it apart for access:

Edit: Just realized this was an older thread that just got resurrected. Oh well, one day someone will be searching this topic and this might help.

Haha, this thread is good since the older the car, the more likely the plastic will break. Broke them all on my E90 and LCI E91. Engine heat just makes the plastic too brittle.

I will do the machine screw route, using screw and clip nut for engine cover. They are cheap and OE look.

Engine cover machine screw.

Clip nut for engine cover to valve cover. Has raised tip to fit snug into plastic and not fall off.

Pollen filter lower housing / cable trunking clips repair

Hi AZDAVEBROWN

Thanks for your excellent solution and write up with pics for the broken lower pollen filter housing on the E9X series .

Just after a few pointers in your answer to get the best solution if you have a minute

Your quote

“On the lower wire housing where the plastic tabs are you will see a place to insert the screws up thru.”

I’ve attached a couple of pics of the cable trunking plastic tabs - could you pinpoint the place to insert the bolts through as on mine the retaining tab is intact and I was wondering were best to drill and fit the bolt and fender washer.

Thanks from Scotland where my E92 318i is still going strong
