Thank you, thank you, thank you! Have had my 2007 E90 328i since May and it started squeeking like crazy from the dash area (just started too). I spent three commutes nearly killing myself to push and prod the dash in every different area to stop the noise. It was really loud and could be heard unless there was constant loud music going.

Anyways, stick my finger in the spot and it stopped. I went and bought some fairly hard foam triangles from Target in the back to school section, cut them down and lodged them in with a screwdriver. My Bimmer is all quiet again and I can sleep easy... and not be embarrassed to drive passengers around!

There's a bearing in your ventilation blower motor that corroded. You can remove, clean or replace the unit. There are YouTube videos as well.

This is the small fan supplying air to the control box enclosure that draws air from inside the car. Often times diagnosed as something other than a fan noise as it can be intermittent and slow to completely fail. Some say it sounds like a cricket or a bird chirp depending on how it fails. I heard them make squealing noises and something that sounds like its a part in the dash loose.

depends. I would think change in air pressure can cause a change in behavior since it is funneling air from inside the cabin into the box on the other side of the firewall.

There is no exact symptom for it really. You need to get down in there and hear it. I have even had to remove the fan and move it around, cycle it around and use a heat gun on one once just to get it to exhibit the noise. This fan configuration is across a lot of BMW models. e46 m3 has been the bulk of my swaps. People have a lot of them going bad now.

Did you happen to find a solution?

No, but I'm going to look into what is stated above. I'm starting to feel that the noise is coming from the engine compartment and is getting translated through the vents.

Also check that the strut brace bolt is tight where the braces meet the bulk head, a loose bolt can cause all sorts of squeaks , groans and knocks as the braces move as the chassis twists in corners and over bumps.

I still haven't had a chance to dig into this, but I would like to remove the ventilation blower and drive the car to make sure that is what's causing the squeaking noise. Electrically would this cause me any problem driving the car with it disconnected?

It ONLY happens when it gets hot in the car, e.g., when I go out to lunch after being parked at work. It sounds like a mouse or little bird being tortured behind my dash...every single rut or any eneven surface will start the chirping. It's not tied to the steering wheel, and I recently had the steering column replaced, but the chirping is still there.

I've taken it to the dealership, my SA has acknowledged the sound, but says that the shop foreman couldn't replicate it. Somebody HELP ME PLEASE! The noise is driving me insane!!!!

I had to and not burst out laughing in the middle of my class when you mentioned the bird/mouse being tortured.. thanks for that

since i already commented, may as well somehow positively contribute to this thread. I sometimes hear some sort of rattling sound from the left side of my steering wheel in cold weather until the engine warms up. i also had this chirping sound over shitty road which turned out to be my belt buckle (like, pants belt) making the sound. hope you do find who is torturing the poor little bird.
cheers!

Experiencing the same exact thing.

After doing research I thought my blower motor needed WD40 in the center bolt. I applied some for a while, cleaning off the rust as much as I could. It's ability to spin freely improved a little, but wasn't so bad to begin with.

Reassembled everything, tried turning right while running the fan (my noise is only present at lower fan speeds, when turning right) and the chirping is still there!

Someone please share a fix or suggestion!! I would love to be able to run my climate control without constantly blasting it or being tortured by the chirping!

thanks.

These cars are very sensitive, to the point it doesn’t make sense. There are days i here squeaks, then they go away.

My blower motor squeaks unless it's at power setting 4 or higher, AC on seems to make it worse.

Sounds like the a/c fan to me. I had the same noise and tried oiling bearing via the filter under the bonnet(in front of windscreen). It stopped for a while but came back within a day so I replaced the fan under the passenger side dash and solved the problem. If you turn off the fan when the noise starts and it goes away yo have found the problem. You Tube will show you how to replace the fan..And although you can remove fan by just dropping the cover under the glove box it's a bitch to replace unless you take out the glovebox..Trust me.

Oh and if you want a new LHD fan with regulator I have one for US$50 freight included. I bought one for my car from Pelican and it's for a left hand drive car and mine us right hand drive..Doh!!!😢.
I could not work out why it seemed to blow a gale sitting in the foot well but nothing came out the vents when it was installed..It was spinning the wrong way.
PM me if you are interested in the fan. I have a mate coming back to California who will carry it and freight it locally..Hence free postage.

I have a NEW replacement blower with regulator listed in classifieds for $40..free postage in Continental USA. If yours squeaks you will only stop it properly by replacing the blower. Once it starts chirping the bearing is toast and relubing will only be a temporary fix.
Replacement is easy and can be done with a screwdriver and something to remove the dash trim without marking it.

Man I gotta say, getting a premium/luxurious brand with only 90k KM I would have expected almost 0 rattles, this is the only and biggest dissapoimtnet I have with the car.

I was able to fix my trim one.

There is one I know is from the blower motor.

But there is one where I have no goddamn clue. All I know is it seems to come from the passenger A pillar or dash vent area. I removed my centre trim, A pillar trim and cannot find anything.
