Wow, lucky you! 195k on the original pump and it didn't even fully fail!

No kidding...I thought I did good with preventatively changing mine out at 101,000 miles!

Hello Everyone

I hope you are all having a great day. I see that Mishimoto was mentioned in this thread regarding water pumps. While replacement water pumps are not something that we currently produce, I'd be happy to send over this thread to our production team. Who knows, maybe this is something we can look into moving forward.

Have a great day!

That would be excellent. I just helped a friend of mine install one of your radiators in his 6.0L PowerStroke truck and the quality was very good. I'm sure members of the BMW community would be interested in higher quality replacement parts that fix a design flaw in the original.

N54 pre lci

I have a 2006 build n54 now at 90 k miles and just replaced my third water pump, that is absurd in a modern car. Oh and on my fourth upper rad hose. When will BMW make.a reliable cooling system. The number one reason for BMW engine failure is warped heads from over heating.

2011 328i SA 84,000 miles, production date 08/2011, still on original pump though it asks for coolant about every 6 months. Also had my OFHG, new VC and OPG done at 76,000 miles.

My LCI waterpump died without warning at about 85,000kms, stranding me on the roadside.

This was literally a week after I asked the dealer whether I should replace it preventatively...and they said 'no, you'll get plenty of warning'

Yeah, no one can predict the future :-/

You have to look at the facts and do what make some you feel the most comfortable.

2011 335 here. My water pump was on its way out at ~46k miles. I'm at ~61k miles now.

Fortunately never experienced failure of the WP, but the radiator fan would cycle on loudly and then off over and over once the car would warm up.

Dealership replaced it under CPO warranty with revised part that came in to use around 2012, I think.

78,500 miles and still on original pump. No current signs of it failing or starting to fail. What does the dealer charge to replace the water pump and thermostat?

2011 N55 and my pump failed at 46k, left me stranded in the middle of nowhere on the highway, Had the dreaded high speed fan issue for 2-3 weeks before it died.

2012 N55 BMW X5 failed at 42K miles. 2011 N55 E92 failing as we speak at 26K miles. I'm replacing it and T-stat this weekend. both cars see almost all city driving.

2011 335is - original WP took the hit at around 60k miles without warning. Loud fan maybe 5 minutes prior, not more. Sub-par reliability on these.

2011 N52, 90k miles, original pump still fine.

I do have a new pump and thermostat in my garage ready to go if it fails. I think I will replace it preventatively around 125k if it hasn't failed by then.

My intuition is that the N52 pump has to work much less hard than the N54/55 and should last longer on average. That seems to be the case in the small sample size we have here in this thread.

2011 N55, 5/11 build date.
49k and change. Pump is throwing the codes its failing, but hasnt died yet. I could tell the car started acting funny but it never overheated. Managed to make it home. Pump and T-stat are on the way now.

The designs are also completely different in favor of the N52.

The N54/N55 pumps also have a plastic part on the front of the housing which cracks and leaks. Seems probably 50% of them fail from cracking the plastic and the rest for other reasons.

Leave it to BMW to design an electric water pump made out of plastic. I thought they learned from the plastic e46 water pumps.

Awesome! Keep this thread going! It seems like N51/N52 owners have less to worry about than N54/N55 owners.

2011 328i had them changed out at just after 100k.
Didn't have any problems but I go on alot of long trips and didn't want it to break down without warning.
