e90 Pre LCI Bi-Xenon Adaptive Retrofit #2

I recently did a retrofit on some Bi Xenon Dynamic Adaptive lights for my 2006 330i and couldn't of been any happier. The time and money is well worth the difference in not only look but functionality. So now it was time to pop open my originals to do something different as 12 years has finally taken its toll.

This time around it took me maybe a hour to hour in a half to pop each one open as I went straight to cutting the plastic lip and a blade to separate the Permatex.

First was disassembly of everything and I mean everything since I can take more time on these.

The internal wiring harness was pretty much heat/weather rotted and flaking, as these headlights were originally missing the back covers when I bought the car. so water dirt and who knows what had made its way in.

Rewired and sleeved harness! I think I used 22 gauge and 24 gauge braided wiring along with 550 paracord for the sleeving. The plug for the SMC (AHL Adaptive Module) I was not able to get the pins out to replace the wiring straight to the pins.

I am still debating on doing a double projector or not and have both inner and outer with low/high beam functionality. the only thing I'm trying to figure out is still keeping the Dynamic Adaptive feature on these and how quick will it burn out the vertical stepper motor with the additional weight.

I also haven't decided what halos to go with yet as I really like Morimotos Halos, with Dynamic Diode right behind them. I guess the real questions is if I'm going to go with a full circle, DTM flat bottom, or DTM square bottom. I was thinking RGB switchback (very few choices) or just normal switchback as I will delete the entire corners again as I did on the previous set which was done like this:

Anyone know where you can get legit Pre LCI replacement lenses as everywhere with looked is either LCI or not correctly labeled by reviews as not fitting?

Here is an update. haven't done much because I am trying to figure out about the inner lights. They are only used for flash to pass or DRL. I'm either trying to find another 76mm projector to use the stock shrouds or a 3" LED projector foglight (which is kind of hard to find). Went with the passive demon eyes as I'm still unsure about finding LED that can handle the HID heat. or I can replace the D2S with a RGB D2S LED and ditch the HID's

Very nice. I'm doing mine at the moment.

I think adding the halogen LCI eyebrow to the preLCI xenons is nice addition. You can even add LEDs to the eyebrow.

Took this idea from OSS.

interesting. I am currently just doing some painting right now. also trying to put red LEDs to accommodate the red shrouds. I'm going to use switchbacks again and delete the entire Amber again. probably going to use the blinker bulb slot with a medal rod holding the LEDs for the demon eyes which can be pulled out and unclipped to replace them as I feel the HID will just burn the LEDs over time.

Here is a little update.

Slow progress, as I was debating on what I should do as far as paint or hydrodip again. The route I went probably doesn't suite everyone's taste, but I am liking it. I had to shave down the fog lights to fit snuggle in the OEM shroud.I am still going to keep the Adaptive/Auto-Leveling feature, as most people who retrofit delete it due to complexity. I'm probably going to have to open up part of the gimbal to allow room for the fog light to fit and still allow the Auto-Leveling feature to work.

Slow Progress!

Had to make sure the black base/color coat was dry before I laid the white down to prevent any bleeding or discoloration of the white. The white needs to fully dry as-well to prevent the layers of clear coat from turning it milky.

The last picture shows how much of the gimbal I cut off still keeping the full adptive feature. with that portion of the gimbal gone I could easily fit another projector. The only reason I opted to not do it was space on changing the bulbs if needed. You would probably have to remove the housing from the car to get to the bulb comfortably.

Still figuring out the lens situation. Don't know if I'm going to swap clear ones in or not.

been Busy. I am not really caring for the all white piece. I will most likely end up changing it.

Been a bit and out this on the back burner. Finally came around for testing out some 5050 RGB strips. I tested the heat on the strips with the gel coating. I put a single LED in the oven on 140 degrees for about an hour with no issues of the gel or LED operating after. Even though I don't think they will even reach that hot. Also debating on Bluetooth or WiFi driver as they need to sync together for control to keep everything integrated with the factory harness.

Still debating on etching the lens a bit or not also.
