Dash Cam

Hey folks,

Was browsing the thought of a dash cam. Seems like more and more irresponsible drivers are appearing over time lol.

Looking through Amazon I see suction cup mounted ones as well as double sided tape mountable.

Not sure if I like the idea of leaving these plugged into my cigarette lighter all the time.

What do ya'll use and or recommend?

Thanks

I have the APEMAN dash cam you listed in both my 328i and my Jeep. It works pretty well, and I've been happy with them so far. I ran the cable to the plug in the center console, no issues. It turns on and off with the car.

No power draw when off?

Was there enough cable to hide it all the way to the console ?

Pics of your install?

I've been using BlackVue for many years and it's good. V small, just hides behind rear view mirror. Check that.
Buy it from authorized dealer Rear View Safety, and they give u the best price.

There was a couple that someone was selling from their part-out in the classifieds on here. It mounted right under the rear-view mirror and it looked pretty OEM as is molded to the housing for the mirror. Pretty cool, probably the only one I would consider having with it having a very low key, OEM look.

No reason to have wires running all over the cabin. You can get an add-a-circuit fuse adaptor:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And connect it to a USB power convertor:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Easy to run the wire directly from the fuse box behind the glovebox up the A pillar and under the front of your headliner, and you also get the benefit of having the cam on a separate fused circuit. Works well for a radar detector too.

That is a neat way to wire it, I'll bookmark those

I run front and rear iOn Dashcams. The front is on a suction cup mount. Suction cups won't work on rear windows with defroster elements. I had to use double sided tape spaced so to clear the heating element.

Whoops, didn't see this. There is no power draw when the car is off since that 12v port only has power with ignition on. The camera is also set to turn on/off with the ignition, so when you start the car it automatically starts loop recording.

This is great because you can just set it up and forget it. I ran the wires down the a-pillar, under the glove box panel, then tucked it under the center console. It was a perfect fit, I probably had 2" extra cable. I'll try and take pics once I'm home.

I have a Chinese no-name camera in the 325, and I definitely wouldn't buy it again. It has issues sometimes, the cable was like 30 feet too long, and it often flickers on by itself when the car is off from stored battery power in the camera. The APEMAN I have in the 328 and Jeep is worlds better for the same price.

Awesome, thank you. I might wire it to the fuse panel later on with a jumper but we'll see.

It was delivered today, gonna check it out when I get off work

I've been running the Rexing dashcam successfully for about a year now in all 3 cars. Installed with the optional hardwire kit that runs to a switched outlet on the fuse panel.
Tucked all the wiring under the headliner and A pillar. Caught a good video the other day where some bitch ran me off the road. Fortunately no damage to the car, so I didn't pursue.
