P.S. Needless to say there are many folks who rely on income sources other than their paycheck. Why do you try to standardize car affordability based on your own financial situation. We are all different, and trust me it's good that way.

B/c it is always interesting to hear what people do and find out what jobs pay. I had no idea a radiologist makes $600k/ yr. Awesome. It also opens the door for someone to be able to answer questions others might have about their career. I dont think anyone means for it to be derogatory, and would more than likely be giving kudos to someone who is successful.

Just get the 335i, don't let the fuel pump scare you away. Shit happens, dealer will fix it.

They do, but I believe it depends what field. This is where many questions about peoples' jobs comes in to play. I had an ER doctor tell me that he only makes $140k/yr. We didnt have time to chat much so I dont know if he was part time or what, but I have since been given the impression that general practitioners do their 9 yrs and dont get paid near the big bucks that the specialists do. A radiologist making around $900k a year is amazing. I didnt think that a doctor's pay would go that high.
I have been considering a career change, and my wife and I talked about me going back to school to become a doctor. However 13 yrs to become a specialist puts me in my mid forties and doesnt seem worth leaving my current job. But now I know what I am grooming my son for!

As for the HPFP issue, my friend bought an 07 coupe with 48000kms on it this summer and the HPFP had been replaced, and a co-worker bought an 08 sedan, it has 23000kms on it and no issues so far.

I dunno it is a good a idea to work as a dentist or doctor just because of the income! There are always a higher paid job then yours. To be a doctor/dentist have to be based on the passion and vision not just money. My brother in law is a dentist and has his own clinic, his job is one of the disgusting job you can have! And he need to work 6 days/week and from 10am to 9pm but he only made ~20% more than me as a lazy ass programmer that 90% of my time is over here and all other forums, play some stupid politics in office... that's a day for me! Of course I only need to work 5 days/week (1 day work at home), 9 pm... I already finished my dinner, kick the kids butt back to bed and enjoying some movie in my cozy cave! The only think I hate is need to get my sleepy ass up @7:30am to catch the stupid go train because the last one is 8am! And most important is I am sure I can more enjoy my life than my in law since I am driving a E92 335i with mods never ending but he is driving a stock AT E46 320i!

Well back to topic, I first having limp mode on ~15000km and then they reset the code and I on & off getting the limp mode for the following 2 mth. Then on ~18000km, the fuel pump gone and have it replaced and up to now 32000km.

booo! Mine just died, car won't even start properly, just coughs then dies. When it does finally get started after about 6 tries with lots of revving, it goes straight into limp mode.

So just get a new HPFP? Or are there uprated ones out there that won't die like the old one.

Just to add to the misery here, I had the dreaded "Engine Malfunction, Reduced Power" on highway a couple of days ago.

The next morning, I start... Guess what. Long crank and rough idle. I called the dealership for service right away. No booking until Dec 15. I guess it will just have to sit there until then.

I really don't follow what other specialists make, but when I was still in med school, if you saw an exotic car in the hospital parking lot, the joke would be, "Must be a radiologist's!" Although I suspect $900,000 is out of the norm, even for them. Doctors' salaries vary widely, and the number of hours you work/how hard you work doesn't correlate with salary (the perfect example is the salary of a radiologist versus that of an internist or heart surgeon)

That's why it's an extremely competitive speciality to get into. Less work, more money.

When I was a resident, it was just astounding, witnessing the amount of hours and stressful kind of work a specialist such as a heart surgeon would do... compared to the workload/salary ratio of a radiologist. But that's not dissing radiologists in any way. Good for them. It just seemed unfair for me for the heart surgeon... But then again, they get the reputation of being "gods", like neurosurgeons, so at least they get that.

On the assumption that you are doctor, at what point during your schooling do you start getting paid? Is it only during your residency? I look at the 13 years it takes to become a radiologist. 4 for BSc, 2 for MSc, 4 for PHd, then onto the residency (please correct me if I am wrong) which is 3-5yrs. It seems to be a long time to go without a steady income. If you are getting paid during your residency, how much are you making?

Yes, I am a doctor.

You start getting paid once you become a resident (post-M.D.)

The usual process is:

• 4 years BSc
• 4-5 years Med School (you don't do a Masters and then PhD - you go directly from BSc to med school, after which you earn a M.D.)
• 2-7 years residency in either family medicine or a specialty. Family medicine is 2 years, specialties are usually 5 but can be longer.

You do accumulate a lot of debt for med school (unless you have rich parents). It's not easy to pay off much of the debt with the salary of a resident. Most really start paying off their debts once they graduate from residency (at which point you get a license to practice).

To get into a radiology residency, it's extremely difficult. Likely most competitive residency to get into (for the reasons mentioned above). After that, it's fairly easy to get a job. You don't usually have to worry about not finding a job once you graduate from (any) residency.
