Oil Leak!

Hi all,

I appologise now for the very long thread! Here goes......

I bought a 56 plate 325i coupe with full BMW history from an indy trader 2 weeks ago, it needed a service so I got the price down accordingly. He also mentioned when I viewed it that it needed a power steering pipe fitting, he showed me the receipt for the pipe from BMW and that it would be done before I picked the car up. I got the car 2 days later.

I had to wait a week after picking the car up before I could get it into my local independent BMW specialist for the service and in this time it developed an oil leak that has been eroding my drive!
When it was serviced I asked for the leak to be sorted as well.
The mechanic serviced the car then rang me to tell me that the oil leak was in fact power steerig fluid!
I explained the work that had been done before I bought the car.
He said that the wrong fluid had been put in as it was red and the correct fluid should be green.

At this point I went back to the trader and told him of the problem, he said I would have to take it back to him and he would repair it. I didnt trust him to do this after what had gone before and told him so, also he is 60 miles from me!
My mechanic said really both pipes needed replacing and the system flushing and new fluid putting in which would be expensive!
He said that it could just be incorrectly fitted in the first instance so he could re-fit the new pipe and flush and put new fluid in. He did this at a cost of £170!
I spoke to the trader and he said he would pay £80. I was okay with this as I thought that would be the end but no!
I woke up this morning to find fresh oil all over my drive!
I went back to the indy and he showed me the pipes and you could clearly see oil on the bottom one.
He said it could be dripping from the top pipe if it was damaged or it could be bottom one leaking. Only way of sorting job once and for all would be to replace both pipes and put new fluid in as he said to do to start with!
Top pipe is £65 and the bottom one is £105!!
As you can see this is getting expensive for me.
I rang trader again and he gave me 2 options, he would pay for bottom pipe at £105 or take it to him and he would put right.
I really dont know what to do to be honest!

At the moment im thinking of getting my man to do the work as he is fully trained BMW technician and get my £105 from the trader and be done with it so that I know its done right.
As you can imagine im a very peeeed off new BMW owner!

Its just got a lot worse for me!

Had it in today with my BMW technician to do the pipes at a cost of £200. I ahve already spent £170 on the job.
He has just rang to say that after replacing the pipes its still laking so he had a closer look at the reservoir and its got a hair line hole in the bottom so it needs a new reservoir!
This will take 4 hours labour as it needs front bumper off, fan out and air con out to get to. Part will be about £70 so all in mim looking at a bill of £700! Plus no car for upto another week so I may have to hire one!
In a real mess with this one, wish I had never bought the car!
