CCC to CIC - Head Unit from other models?

I'm sourcing parts for my upgrade and wanted to know which models have interchangeable HU? I've sourced a 2012 HU from an X1 as well as the controller. They say their system shows the H/U as being interchangeable. It looks the exact same as that used in the 09+ E90's. Same with the controller. I know I would need the E90 trim for the H/U and centre console.

Does anyone know if this H/U and controller from a 2012 X1 would work? Bonus being a 2012 is that it more than likely will have updated software for the eventual Combox retro.

I don't have direct experience here (so take the following with skepticism) but I pulled up a picture of a HU CIC HIGH from an e84 on eBay and the labels match (BMW 6512) as does the shape and screw holes / connectors. So I think it would work. But I also saw HU CIC MID units on eBay and the faceplate looks the same (the unit itself is half the height though). The model on the MID unit also says 6512.

So my guess is that it would work. Just make sure you get a high unit (option code $609, 8.8 inch screen)... (Assuming you want professional navigation of course)

For the record, I did pull my combox from an X1 without iDrive, that worked fine in my e92. But my cic came from another e92 (just happened to work out that way).

It's the same. Mines from an X1, should have the C1A firmware too.

Thanks gents. These guys are reputable, so even if it didn't work they would take it back since their system shows it will.

But glad to know it will work and being 2012 should have C1A firmware.
