First time poster... purchased a 2011 space gray metallic 335is convertible DCT w/56k miles a few days ago.

Had a real interesting time purchasing the car... Found it in early Dec, tried to purchase but since it was at a BMW dealer, they couldn't sell it to me with the Blower Motor Wiring open recall. Waited for almost 2 months for them to get the fix and have it fixed... purchased it Jan 27th, went to drive off the lot and then heard a loud audible POP! and then boom, limp mode ("Reduced Power Mode") and then brought it back to the dealer since I was only about 200 yards away. They told me they weren't sure what it was.
Meanwhile, I searched the forums and figured out it was the coupler that popped off the charge pipe, in about 2 minutes... The dealer asked me if they could keep the car and fix it, so I had to drive almost 2 hours home from the dealer without the car. It was delivered to me 5 days later. Glad to finally have it home.

(tldr; recall pushed purchase date back almost 2 months, coupler on charge pipe popped off taking home from dealer, delivered 5 days later)

Yeah, it was tough knowing that my car was just sitting at a dealership waiting for me. haha In the meantime, I was looking for another 335is just in case this one didn't work out but everything ended up working out just fine, with some kinks.

Cool, I think I'll do that asap because I've heard others having problems with it... I mean, what do you expect with a plastic charge pipe?! haha

In terms of the proneness to cracking, what's everyone's take on the 225m wheels? I have them on mine and love the style, but I have my fears based on what I've read.

My wheels have some rash that I want to have repaired, however is it worth spending money to fix these or should I put that money towards a set of some other wheels?

Here's the deal. If the stock charge pipe blows up, the dealer will replace it under an extended warranty. Mine (2012, E93, 335IS) went at about 50kmiles. I bought another from SFBMW and installed it myself. Weeks later I got the extended warranty letter from BMW, so submitted the receipt as documentation for the part and a couple of months later, got the check for the cost of the part. (nothing for my labor and diagnosis tho...) (Have a similar story for my Toyota Tacoma Driveshaft).

My winter setup with 245/40/R18 on Apex EC-7 18x9 ET31 is rubbing heavily (one full steering wheel turn) on both sides and has damaged both the auxiliary oil cooler and radiator on the driver and passenger side.

Does anyone know if 255/35/R18 will also rub in the same way on our cars with the extra aux oil cooler and radiators in the wheel wells?

I read how most E92 don't experience rubbing with these sizes so I hope I can find a smaller size that won't rub, any suggestions?

The 255/35 18 will be less tall than the 245/40 18 and should have about the same overall width. I ran the 245/40 for a while and did have rubbing at first. I took off the plastic guards and after they wore down a bit it stopped rubbing.

I had those when I bought my CPO 335is. Looked cool but 6 months after I had the car, found out 3 were cracked. One so bad it wouldn't hold air. Even if you repair, it will crack again. I wouldn't go near them.

That seems to be the general consensus, it's a damn shame too. I have them off the car now and there aren't any apparent cracks, not sure what I'll do with them but I have my old style 189 wheels on the car for now.

I'll look to get another set of 19" wheels in the summer, upgrading to a LSD is priority numero uno.

So the tires stopped rubbing as they wore down a bit? Then you put the grill back? I'd be worried about protecting the cooler from rocks without a grill.

Does 255/35 have the same width as 245/40 because 245/40 is taller and stretches a little, while 255 is wider but less tall to stretch?

Here are my numbers:
Tire Height Width

245/40/R18 - 25.7" 9.6" This is our baseline that caused rubbing

235/40/R18 - 25.4" 9.3" .3" less height, .3" less width, -.6" total

255/35/R18 - 25.0" 10" .7" less height, .4" more width, -3" total

Is this a good way to figure out the clearance? I know the tires rub a bit on compression so I'm more worried about height, but would the 255 width be an issue?

Do you know for sure 255/35 is good enough more clearance to give it a shot?

With the 245/40 beware of hitting a bump while turning or this may happen... been running them for about 4 months now too. I've had to replace my drivers side aux cooler cover as well, now I'm careful not to turn the wheel past 1 1/4 turns while reversing. Only suspension mods are lowering spring perches and pulled alignment pins.

Man, that looks painful, can't believe it happened.
Did you have to replace the oil cooler or radiator too? My shop said the grill punctured the coolers too, but I honestly cannot confirm.

I just want to make everyone in here aware that 245/40/R18 really isn't possible for our front fitment. I don't want anyone else to go through what I'm going through right now.

I realize rubbing = combination of height and width.

Does 255/35/R18 have any rubbing issues at all? It has less height than 235/40, but I'm worried about the width, maybe it'll rub as well, or have strut clearance (I plan to go Bilstein B8 shocks, but I know coilovers will have clearance issues due to the coil on it and the 255/35 tires).

Can anyone confirm if 235/40/R18 has any rubbing issues due to the 40 aspect ratio tire height? It feels awfully tall.

And is 255/35/R18 okay? Once again, 245/40/R18 is no good at all.
